I was listening to a podcast called In the Red Clay and it was about the Dixie Mafia and the leader Billy Sunday Birk. In the podcast they talk to people who live in rural Georgia in a town called Winder. A couple of different people in the podcast call the trunk of a car the boot. The only time I have ever heard that it was with British people. Strange thing to hear from a bunch of rednecks from rural Georgia.

My parents grew up in rural Missouri in the 1940's and 50's but to this day use terms I don't hear in the south.
For example:
Sofa= Divan
Sink= Zinc
Dinner=Supper
Soda="Sodie-Pop"
My in-law's were rural Missouri and both Zinc and So-dee were used.
So was "kaddie-corner" vs. kiddie-corner to cross the street corners diagonally.

I've been known to say lots of words after drinking several Old Fashioneds. I may or may not have even typed a few on Tigerdroppings.

And how can I forget my grandma from southern Minnesota saying "warsh" instead of wash.

My grandparents from Alabama had a few good ones, especially my grandfather:
Pants=britches
Refrigerator=Frigidaire
Winter beanie hat=boggin
My grandmother pronounced 'chance' as 'chanch'.

My great grandmother had a sink out on her porch where we were sent to wash our hands before dinner. She called it the lavatory.

Icebox = fridge
Banquette = sidewalk
Parasol = umbrella
Save the ___ = put the ___ away (dishes/groceries etc)
Get down = get out of the car (cajun side of family)
Never forget the time my prim and proper mother in law asked if we were getting down at a stop on a trip. Hadn't heard that before - apparently a holdover from horse and buggy days.
Grandma used most of those plus zinc and hosepipe. And my-nez for your sammich.

I still do this. I remember being in high school driving around with a buddy. Stopped at a gas station to get a snack and asked my buddy if he was getting down. Dude looked at me super confused. Now I live in Lafayette and everyone says it like that
