It's sad to read about it. Lots of families are going to get hurt by this.

Yeah it's about to get real bad over here. Glad me or my dad are not in the oilfield. But I have a feeling I'm about to see a lot of people I know lose their jobs. Plus I have friends graduating this year in Mechanical engineering. Dont know what they're gonna do

We had to do layoffs too.
I don't like having that conversation with people.
Hopefully it picks back up soon

We laid off 13% yesterday here at our Denver headquarters. I was one of the lucky ones, for now.

Previously I was with Pioneer Natural Resources and they closed their Denver regional office entirely back in May.

Gone through 2 layoffs in 5 months, luckily survived this second one.

People who are flashy/cocky deserve to be mocked. I wouldn't hope anyone gets fired, though. Things will even out, because business isn't going anywhere. Managers panic and start layoffs, but cheaper gas won't kill the industry. It's been cheap many times before.

It's going to have a far reaching impact. I remember when this happened in the 80's, in Louisiana. People accustomed to making good money had to look for work paying far less than they were accustomed to. It hit every sector of the economy.

I am one of the unlucky ones.

Company I worked for had roughly 120 employees and laid off about 30 people.

If anyone around Lafayette needs a mechanical or structural designer/drafter let me know.

F250 market will be plentiful. Idk of your making a joke but I'm not. I walked out of an office with a guy shopping his house into the parking lot where a guy was on his way to trade in his truck. Regardless of their education, spending habits, or salaries I really hate to see this. I'm fortunre enough to do work for a major who has enough active deep water work to keep me secure.

I don't work in the oil field, but its hurting the company I work for because our two main customers have a lot of money tied to oil and gas companies, and they don't want to spend shite. No spending means no projects for us (engineering), which means layoffs. shite sucks. Had to see one of my good friends get laid off. My job is safe for now, but this shite needs to pick up, because if we dont get projects, I dont get bonuses, and I like bonuses.

you mean the housing and bank market crash?

2008 wasn't that bad down here, 2009 and the beginning of 2010 was bad until the BP oil spill wich saved a lot of peoples lives and businesses.

That's when the spillionaires were born.

We had our first layoff in our office this week. He was an underperforming senior level engineer.

Underperforming + high salary = layoff in down times

Everyone else was assured we were safe, but it still makes me nervous.

I don't work directly for O&G, but they make up a large base of our clients.

I don't wish unemployment on anyway.

There's a market in FL for F250s and I always see here folks say that's the first thing to go up for sale.

If I'm buying and they are selling I'm not sure what the issue is.

Well if this trend keeps up I'll be able to fill up my truck for under less than half your child support.

Don't worry your time is coming and I won't feel sorry for you. You're an idiot if you think the O&G industry are the only ones that will feel the effects of this.
