Guess there wasn't that many wealthy Star Wars dorks after all..

quote:

Disney
World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, a two-day hotel experience, is closing and will make its final voyage this September after being open for only more than a year.

“Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser is one of our most creative projects ever and has been praised by our guests and recognized for setting a new bar for innovation and immersive entertainment,” the company said in a statement. “This premium, boutique experience gave us the opportunity to try new things on a smaller scale of 100 rooms, and as we prepare for its final voyage, we will take what we’ve learned to create future experiences that can reach more of our guests and fans.”

They were charging like $6K for a two night "stay" for a family of four.

I'm sure some of you will say "go woke go broke" but this is more like "don't understand your audience, lose money". The concept was interesting but not nearly wide enough appeal for their prices.

I would have loved to go, but no way I was going to spend what they were asking. Possibly if my son was old enough to remember it later. I don't think there was a lack of interest, I just think they got too greedy with the price point. Disney is already expensive enough. The market has spoken

Demoing or repurposing the hotel seems like it would be a terrible financial decision.

It seems like this place would have reasonable demand if the cost dropped to something more reasonable than $3k/night. Keep it open, drop prices significantly, and ditch the actors and niche "experiences" to lower costs of keeping it open.

morons...

what's really funny is, if they hadn't made an utter disaster of Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker, it probably would have succeeded.

Man, for $4000/night or whatever ridiculous figure they were asking for, I definitely didn't see this coming

It’s not something I would’ve ever gone to but from the pictures I saw, it sure as frick wasn’t worth what they were charging.

It looked like the rooms from when I went to Space Camp in middle school.

They did a terrible job marketing this and even understanding what the frick it is.

I told several people about it and they had no idea what it was. Even asked my coworker if they checked it out that recently got back from disney with her kids , she didnt know it existed. Shes a big star wars fan.

I, for one, am shocked that people weren't lined up to spend 6k cosplaying
and line dancing with a bunch of made-up Star Wars-esque characters.

I never went (I had no desire and I surely had no intent on paying those prices) but from what I have seen, it was almost like a cruise on land. There were a lot of "things to do", meal places, etc, that I don't know how easily they can convert this to something else. Plus, it was only 100 rooms.

Disney isn't a fan of dropping prices. They will run sales, but never drop the rack rate.

Honestly, the land underneath it is probably more valuable to wipe it and start something new.

At the end of the day it’s still just a hotel room. In this inflationary environment where families are struggling to afford the basics, asking $3k a night for a $300 hotel room is doomed to failure.

Probably why it was small scale. I'd be shocked if it didn't turn a profit. Might've paid for the project, now it will just be a standard guest room.

The whole Star Wars phenomenon is puzzling to me. I am old and went to see the original in the theater. It was a good movie, very enjoyable, glad I saw it, etc. But it is practically a religion for a lot of people. Not judging anybody...I just don't get how it impacts so many people so deeply.

They couldn't just lower the prices instead of shutting it down?

Star wars Fandom is pretty much dead at the altar of the LGBTQ flag and its expensive.
