I'm familiar with ELTs. I'm wondering if an underwater ping that is designed for short range operation may actually be picked up by a sub or listening device a couple of thousand miles away. There have been many ships that have taken satellite beacons straight to the bottom with them, thus no transmission.

Not sure about the Middle East but isn't Western Asia a lot closer to Northern US (e.g. Chicago) if traveling over the top (North Pole)?

Good point, I was too lazy to look it up and just shooting from the hip, does accuracy really have a place on TD?

I probably wouldn't have thought of that path but years ago, a friend from Russia would travel that route flying home. He said it was a lot closer.

I don't think we know how significant that is unless we know how many total airports he had on that simulator or the time frame in which he downloaded/practiced on them.

If it was years ago and he's got hundreds and hundreds of airports on his simulator, I don't think thats a big deal. I mean he primarily flew in that region of the world and was likely familiar with them.

Now if he practiced on them within the last few weeks/months and he only had 50 or so airports, then I think its a huge red flag.

This sounds a lot like a news report I once saw that said something like this:

"Guns Discovered and Confiscated In Raid"

...of gun store.

Nothing is significant. Nothing is a red flag. Just go about our business like normal and forget this ever happened. Thx.

But even that's not necessarily unusual. After a simulated flying session you can save the session and replay it. It's a good idea to periodically purge them so they don't eat up too much space.

The 777 can haul a lot more weight a longer distance than the 737, I think this model 777 is like 9500 miles vs. 3800 miles for a 737. One could hit the U.S. from Western Asia or the Middle East, the other can't.

but a 737 is more affordable

I've been following this mystery closely. I come home and turn on the news to catch the latest and every time now it says "breaking news". I'm like bitch this is the same thing you were reporting yesterday.

Malaysian officials have confirmed they received 'some radar data' from other countries about the missing Flight MH370 today - but claimed they were 'not at liberty' to release the information.

Speaking at a press conference this afternoon, acting Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said Malaysia was continuing to co-ordinate the search for the missing Boeing 777-200ER.

He added: 'I can confirm that we have received some radar data, but we are not at liberty to release information from other countries.

'I appeal to all our partners to continue volunteering any and all information that could help with the investigation and the search for MH370.'

Malaysia confirms it has new radar data on missing plane flying over another country (but won't say where for security reasons)

That's soooo Malaysian.

I saw a story floating around about Redditors having found the plane in the jungle. the "evidence" photo had an image of a plane intact and wings overlaying the tops of trees.

I only jump on there a couple days after an interesting AMA gets some tweets and I'll go read those. All of these internet sleuths really are comical even though I enjoy hypothesizing an outcome to mysteries such as these. I'm certainly not going to fabricate evidence to see how many people will bite.

If the Malaysians know what day of the week it is, that's as good as it's going to get.

I think I am getting story fatigue.

It used to be interesting, exciting, then frustrating, then, I got angry at the lack of clues and the inability to find these people.

Now, I am just sick of hearing about it, and I don't care what happened or happens.

Not sure if it's the Malaysians or the news people who did it, but it's done. I'll have to start following some other story for a while.
