American and British aviation officials have refined satellite signals from the missing Malaysia Flight 370 and created two possible flight paths that dramatically narrow the scope of the search to an area off the coast of Australia.
The two possible paths have the plane heading toward the South Pole and ending, experts believe, off of Australia.
U.S. officials familiar with the investigation tell ABC News that the hourly satellite pings from the jet had yielded far more clues than expected, enabling the focus of the search to be cut in half - from an area roughly the size of Texas to that of Arizona.

I would encourage anyone who reads that link to watch the video. You will realize that most of the story is misleading and what what was actually said.

So the plane went north after crossing Malaysia and then turned south sometime after that?

Would that be 3000 miles NE off French Southern & Antarctic Islands?
Not sure what the source is but I read this at the same time. Probably some BS but "unconfirmed report that possible plane debris found 3000 miles NE off French Southern & Antarctic Islands". LINK
From some guy, again I have no idea who this is or his source but do the locations match up?
Just a shot in the dark.

A few pages back, there was some good info regarding the data from the engines of MH370 being ping/sent back to Rolls Royce and Boeing. Article I just read, unsure if true says the data from the engines is sent back only upon landing, which means the plane didnt crash, but landed somewhere. Unsure if what I read is true, but if so, why isnt something like that being reported in the mainstream news?

You sound just as confused as I am.
Crazy yet intriguing as hell

CNN has talked about nothing else for two solid days, totally ignoring the Crimean situation. It's comical to listen to reporters struggle to find more to say about the missing airliner, including numerous unfounded tinfoil hat theories. They clearly have marching orders to ignore Obama's monumental failure.

It's 24 hour news channel. There is nothing happening in Crimea that is surprising. I'll tell you how Putin will vote tomorrow and the US isn't going to do shite. In 6 months no one will care.
This airplane story is actually entertaining and no one knows how it will end.

Two days?
Try thirteen.

Despite their flaws, "mainstream news" still likes to have some facts

I think they would be all over that. Not sure if they even got data off the pings... I think they only know distance from satellite.

All news services are spending a lot of time about this missing plane. sure Crimea is an emerging story, but nothing has really happened there. Plus, way more Americans care about planes than the political scene in a former Soviet Union state.

Fact is people love a real life mystery. People love to speculate and have theories. Every time there is a major trial or event we all have our ideas. This is the longest search for a plane crash in the jet age.
People have all kinds of ideas where that plane is. Then once it's found there will be further speculation on the black box contents.
