Offering a hiring bonus to a person in a hiring position

Is it wrong to offer say...$1000 bucks to anyone who can get you or your kid hired with a company you are interested in?
We're having a debate. I don't see a problem with it. If he can't do the job, fire him. If he turns out to be a great fit, why not?
What are the thoughts of the OT?

My kids don't have to have me do this for them.
There's that.
There's that.

We are in LA so it is never wrong to use graft and corruption to get what you want. Just don't get caught.

yeah, pretty sure that wouldn't go well.

Your kids are bad and you should feel bad.

This sounds more like a bribe than a hiring bonus. A bonus is payed to the hired one.
I don't have a problem with it in private industry under the right circumstances, but definitely not kosher for a government job.

Bribe, referral bonus, whatever you want to call it.

The good ole boy network does it for free, so why should money matter?

Illegal but only if caught.

Referral bonus would be paid by the company, not the person seeking a job (or his daddy)

So you're saying pass up on a potentially more qualified candidate to waste a bunch of money on training your spawn only to find out that the kid can't spell potato and now they have to start the process all over again? That costs wayyyyyyy more than $1000.

That's great. When your bribe buddy and your kid get shitcanned because of the bribe, at least the bribe buddy's going to have your $1k to fall back on.

If a kid is offering 1k for a job making 26k starting pay, it is a safe assumption he has aspirations of advancement within the company.
I agree on not hiring bubba over a qualified candidate. I'm saying, if bubba happens to be qualified and is willing to show his dedication by putting up 1000 bucks, why not pick bubba?

Is that a challenge? I need someone who can reach the 10mm socket when I inevitably drop it behind the motor.

I'd not hire anyone who came to me with this kind of nonsense and fire anyone I found out who works for me and took the money.

Well anyone offering 1k to work at burger king is clearly a poor choice.

When we're talking about meeting Bubba, it usually starts off with something unethical, immoral, and illegal.
