Nice stretch. It was 15, not 2. Point being is teens are big and strong enough and in a group can kill you or do harm. Throw alcohol or drugs in there and no telling what might happen. Teens at 3 am in packs are usually assholes. Spin that however you want to. My friend taught the boy who got shot.

Only one of us here is trying to spin anything.

The officer is a friend of mine and I hope he ends up okay.

That doesn't change the fact that (ignoring this incident, acting on thr hypothetical) if your basis for a justifiable homicide was that after you decided to leave your home, you believed the 14 year old was going to murder you with his hands because "look what i saw on the news this one time", you have some serious issues coming your way.

My post earlier said no one really knows what happened. It is possible cop is wrong and possible kid is wrong. I just said kids can kill or harm someone, especially in packs and don’t have to have a gun. He was not alone but with a bunch is kids. No one has all the details. The facts will come out.

It has happened more than one time on tv/news. Do you live under a rock? If I see 10/15 kids in driveway at 3 am I’m going to assume they are up to no good and protect my family.. You go outside and offer them some warm cookies and milk.

Prediction:

1. Scumbag plaintiff lawyer will sue cop’s employer
2. Defense will file motion to dismiss: cop not acting in course and scope of employment during incident
3. Scumbag Judge will deny said motion

Are you really asking why a person who shot another person outside would be a suspect?

Inside the home would have been a totally different story (to any reasonable person.)

If they were trying to break into his car I wish he had shot them all

If they were just making noise outside it won’t end well for him

Except that assumption isn't supported by anything in the article or info available about this incident. If the juveniles confronted the homeowner, that becomes a forcible felony where armed self-defense is perfectly legal. Something you and several others in this thread don't seem to grasp.

We all grasp it, and it frankly it does not matter. At the end of the day, right or wrong he will a) be ostracized by some and b) have to life with the fact he killed a 14 year old.

That is just the way it is, and you damn sure know it is the truth. It will be wayyyy worse if it turns out there was no altercation or the kid was unarmed. Multiple witnesses where there and quite possible the kid survives and tells his side.

A big part of his problem is that the witnesses are the juveniles who fled the scene.

Also heard there may have been a bit of a delay between the shot and calling 911.

Hopefully it works out as well as possible.

How do you have enough information from that article you posted to form any kind of opinion either way?

The mere fact there are glaring omissions and missing details in the story tells you all you need to know.

There isn't enough evidence based on the article to argue one way or another if he was in imminent danger of losing his life or receiving great bodily harm. It would be based on the actions of the juvenile at the time of the interaction. Cop vs Juve word.

Yeah they left out a lot of information in the articles.

It will also depend if they were trying to break into his unit or his POV as well. Probably be given more leeway if it’s his unit with weapons/ammo etc inside.

nola via outline.com so no blocking

quote:

An off-duty college campus police officer investigating why a car alarm was blaring outside his Metairie home shot a teenager in the head after a bright light on the boy’s cell phone suddenly flashed, something the officer mistook as a firing gun, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday.

quote:

Deputies later found other minors who had accompanied the wounded boy. The Sheriff’s Office said they admitted their group of five had snuck out of their homes and were “joyriding” in a car that belonged to one of their parents. They parked the car near Short’s home while the group dropped off one friend who lived close by.

quote:

Those three minors were walking away from the vehicle and near Short’s home when he encountered them.

Looks like the kids were walking away from another car that wasn't stolen, but did have it's alarm going off.

Kids were near his house when the confrontation happened.

Two kids ran, one kid stayed. Phone rang, off duty cop shot him.
