Definitely is.
Article seems carefully written too.

Off-duty Louisiana officer shoots 14-year-old boy in head outside cop's home
The media lies more than the weatherman. It’s pathetic. Journalism is dead, I hope all the newspapers go defunct.
They aren’t even fit to line the cage of a nutria (sorry the advocate is so bad it literally killed you Tanden.)

Probably to take change and other shite inside the car. That’s not a death sentence.

Deputies later found other minors who had accompanied the wounded boy. The Sheriff’s Office said they admitted their group of five had snuck out of their homes and were “joyriding” in a car that belonged to one of their parents. They parked the car near Short’s home while the group dropped off one friend who lived close by.
Two from the group got out of the car, and three stayed behind, with the vehicle's alarm activated, the Sheriff’s Office said. The three who had stayed back then climbed out of the car, tripping the vehicle's alarm.
Those three minors were walking away from the vehicle and near Short’s home when he encountered them.
Something doesn't add up with their story. Why are they walking around after dropping someone off? Were they looking to burglarize a few cars perhaps?

While their own car alarm was going off?

Hah it was their own car’s alarm. This “cop” is completely fricked.

Or getting away from the car that is drawing attention to them being out joyriding.
They were 14, probably not the best reasoning skills.

The kid was in the driveway pulling on door handles.
The guy shot him in the head from the house.
Not good for the cop.

Oh, he should be good then.

Did you not read the part about the cell phone flashing?
It makes this case a little more complicated

I guess. You feel threatened by people walking down the street?

In no reasonable person's mind does this make it more complicated.

Agreed, had this been in Orleans Parish, not so sure.

I’m not picking sides just pointing out that at that time of the night with an alarm blaring and someone with something in their hand probably had him on edge. Then the flash could have been mistaken for gunfire.
And if it’s dark, it might not be so easy to see that they are 14.
Just my speculation.
If he was that low level of a cop he’s probably pretty damn stupid

Yeah, that is a defense in court.

It will also depend if they were trying to break into his unit or his POV as well. Probably be given more leeway if it’s his unit with weapons/ammo etc inside.
He has another problem if he is leaving weapons in his cruiser overnight at his residence.
