NYC hate crime: Asian woman attacked with a hammer

The story goes on to describe another attack on an Asian the day before. This crime was committed by a white suspect with a bag of chips. He’s 20 years old with 20+ previous arrests.

So, this is a story about a hate crime from a black woman on an Asian lady, and the writer felt the need to include the other crime just so they can make sure to have a story about whitey committing a crime?
