Nucor to build $1.35 billion steel mill in the midwestern US

Nucor Corporation (NYSE: NUE) today announced plans to build a state-of-the-art plate mill in the U.S. Midwest. Nucor's Board of Directors has approved an investment of $1.35 billion to build the mill, which is expected to be fully operational in 2022 and will be capable of producing 1.2 million tons per year of steel plate products. The project is expected to create approximately 400 full-time jobs.
"This investment is consistent with our drive to continue delivering sustainable, profitable growth and superior returns for shareholders," said John Ferriola, Chairman, CEO & President of Nucor. "Together with the significant share repurchases completed in 2018, the Board's decision to fund this high-return opportunity demonstrates our commitment to balanced capital allocation. I think they have a mill on the river next to Carrolton KY. Big aluminum mill nearby as all the electricity to run it and that rather large coal generator next door. Coal may not be popular but it is cheap.

Nucor is a great company. I have a friend who has been a consultant for them for 2 decades.

Are you sure you are not thinking of Big River Steel in Osceola?

Since that’s mostly done with angles, I want to say A36 is standard. Bust the coils, plates and bar they make is grade 55. I actually work for the buildings group within Nucor. Vulcraft is the fabricated products group.

That’s really not that much of an investment when compared to other projects going in in oil, polyolefins and other Polymer plants. Shell has a $4 billion dollar plant going in around Pittsburgh. Formosa just announced a $4 billion? Project is South LA.

No they aren’t.
It’s an extremely stressful place to work since they compensate their employees mainly by production. If production stops, even at no fault to anyone at the plant, they get paid pennies, which is why so many people quit at the one in convent a few years ago.
They also have some of the most stubborn and arrogant legal people I’ve ever dealt with.
All that being said, yeah they are a great company. I have made a lot of money off of them in the last 3 years b/c they are idiots who throw money around when they have it.
