One year isn't long enough.
Depending on your job and basic training you won't have enough time in service at your assignment. Maybe 2.5 years?

I dated a chick that was IDF, her brother was special forces and still enlisted. Anytime shite got hot over there she would get all fired up wanting to go crack some heads. Most of them are good looking, then again my standards fluctuate like the tide. They are fun.

fair enough. even at 2 years out of high school, that would put them back in college between 20 and 21 if they choose and much more focused. I think a lot of people would fair much better if they took a couple years off of school between high school and college to refocus and figure out what they want. I would have for sure.

We have a population of over 300 million people and we don't rest in a tiny enclave under constant threat of attack. Pragmatically speaking, mandatory military service would be idiotic, not to mention not in line with our founding values.
