That's the big question mark I've always had. When does the Texas population and/or rich Mexican tourism reach the crosspoint where owners like him could make more money with casinos here in Texas.

Tillman grew up in Galveston.

If casinos come to Texas he will lead the charge.

You'd go with either San Antonio or South Padre Island, but not both.

South Padre isnt even mentioned....

Las Vegas Sands has been "working very closely with Tilman Fertitta," the Houston billionaire and CEO of Landry's, which operates casinos, hotels and restaurants.

This is the whole key. If Fertitta gets his kickback and can build one, he’s in. Otherwise, this isn’t happening. He tried for years to build in Galveston and it never passed. Then the nugget permit opened when lauberge decided not to expand, and it killed the Texas legislation. This only passes if Fertitta signs off and joins

He’s also allegedly involved in this ordeal though. I’d imagine he can make money on both.

What changed that made people stop going to tunica? I’ve never been so just curious.

Long time ago, the only states that had casinos were Nevada, New Jersey and Mississippi. There was no casinos down the I-55 corridor from Chicago to St Louis to Memphis. They would bring charter buses that would start in Chicago, pick more up in St. Louis, and then drop em off in Tunica for the weekend.

Tunica County is one of the poorest counties out there and the revenue built it up. 11 casinos, shopping centers, restaurants, golf courses, etc. Once neighboring states legalized gambling, throw in the recession, they started to fade. They’re down to six now. Some just keep driving on to Biloxi now.

It’s unfortunate cause it was a good weekend vacation. About 3.5 hour drive for me. Used to have WSOP and WPT events there. Some big high rollers won and lost a lot of money there.

I was just replying to kingbob's comment. San Antonio and Padre would draw on the same target audience. But obviously SA has a larger year round audience.

Would suck for Louisiana, but this state doesn’t deserve the gaming industry.

From the corruption at the beginning, to the stupid “riverboat” rules that require most casinos be built on boats - adding massive operational and maintenance costs, while limiting size and customer experience, Louisiana fricked this up like only Louisiana can.

They should’ve been able to build large, land-based casinos from the beginning.

I get that, but he’s listed in the article as working with LSV. Seems like he’s a supporter under the right conditions.

TF is absolutely paying to keep gambling out of Texas. Those multi million $ helos ferrying high rollers from Hurston don’t fly on love. He would be a fool to wash his hands of the nugget.

Wsop circuit event was still there pre covid. I've only been to Tunica once and the poker room was filled with people in Grizzlies gear. Is the casino not mostly filled with people from Memphis?

Just the opposite. Tillman is pushing for it because he’d own the Houston area.
