After discovering the sword, the two divers took it to Mjøs Museum. The museum’s director Arne Julsrud Berg said that there were indications the sword was around five hundred years old and that the location of its discovery suggested it may have been on board a boat.

“One theory suggests it may have been a battle sword. Two-handed swords like this were commonly used in wars or battles around Europe in the 1500s,” Julsrud Berg told NRK.

A second theory as to the sword’s original use could be that it was used for executions, he also said.

It may alternatively have been used for ceremonial purposes or to show status, the museum director added.

Some kid probably got his arse tanned for knocking dad's sword overboard.

Collectors want swords in good condition. It’s gonna sit around the shop for a year before it sells. I’ll give you 25 dollars for it, take it or leave it.

I've heard you can find better looking swords walking across the quad at LSU.

Or a Swedish guy in a pub watched & waited till his dad went to the shitter..

Then took it from him & threw mead in his face for loving his country.

Yeah, the thing is I'm going to have to restore it. That will cost some money. Not sure how much. Then, I'll have to have it here in the shop and advertise it. Could sit awhile. This takes the right buyer to come through and it takes up shelf space. Overhead. It adds up.

I can off offer $400 and that's taking a gamble.
