So apparently the family is filling a lawsuit against the University and former head coach.

- Original apartment had mold.
- Moved him to a new apartment with a non-student and a
non-athlete.
- New roommate was heavy in drugs and guns.
- pulled a gun on Ronnie.
- Ronnie called his parents to tell them of the incident.
- Father texted the coach to have him removed from the
situation ASAP.
- Coach said he would take care of it.
- Next call the family recieved was from the coach telling
them that Ronnie had been murdered.

LINK

rough deal.

I meant tough to recover the enrollment gap if a previous person was correct with the numbers listed.

I was on campus during the dark days of Nicholls and it was a massive Shitshow definitely was not an enjoyable experience

Heck every night in college was like a homecoming party.

It’s not like the tens of tens, McNeese state fans are going to miss the losers bowl.

Other part wow the whole athletic department should be fired or forced to resign if they put that young man in that situation.

seems like a bit of an over-reaction. Fire the coach sure, but cancel the whole season?!?

so now we know the real reason Laird resigned... granted he was likely to be fired, even as a NSU "legend", b/c of his losing record...

and side note, when did McNeese start sucking? they used to be great and went to the FCS playoffs like every year... now they are winless this year? admittedly, i don't keep up with the FCS/Southland Conf but damn... this seems crazy to me

Did the kid off himself or something? Doesn't look like he died on the field.

ETA : nm some TPOS murdered him.

Still no reason to cancel season
Why cancel your season and spoil it for everyone else who worked hard?

NATCHITOCHES – Northwestern State University’s Fall 2023 enrollment was not as low as administrators had anticipated, according to President Dr. Marcus Jones. Total enrollment on the 14th day of classes, the date by which all students, including late registrants were counted, was 8,847, a 5.8 percent decline from one year ago. Last year’s Fall 2022 enrollment was 9,389.

Undergraduate students number 5,860. There are 987 students seeking master’s, doctoral and post-baccalaureate degrees and 2,000 high school dual enrollment students.

Of the undergraduates, 1,029 are first-time freshmen, up 61 from Fall 2022, a 6.3 percent increase. Fall 2022 entering freshmen were retained at a rate of 66.37 percent, an improvement of 12.2 percent over the previous year.

“As compared to Fall 2022, we are down 542 students,” Jones said. “However, the first-time freshmen and retention rate has increased. We are making positive strides.”

That school should be closed and in no way should have a football team. It's time for the directional schools to give up football and other sports if they can't support themselves.

Will save the taxpayers billions.

not even surprised, I wouldn’t expect Natchitoches to be really appealing to a young student

Natchitoches, as a college age student or as a senior citizen, is cool... any age in between, it sucks....

i had a great time as a student there... good enough bar options, good student life, etc... granted this was 20 years ago, as well, but yeah...

They should drop football completely. Since they haven’t played LA Tech at the State Fair in years, they’ve become irrelevant.

That doesn't explain cancelling the season. Get an interim coach and keep playing.

The press conference was sad.

First, the boy is put in an apartment with mold that's making him sick. They move him, though I don't know who "they" are. Who made the decision where he was to be moved? Anyway, he was moved to another apartment in that complex and his roommate isn't even a student at the school. That alone doesn't make sense.

Roomie pulls a gun on him. He calls his Dad. Dad calls the coach and says to move his son now. He even said to move him to a hotel if they have to for now. Dad said he'd be coming that weekend. 3 days later the boy is murdered.

I'm wondering if Dad checked with the son to see if he was moved and, if so, why wouldn't he have called the coach to find out why he had not been moved? I would have been following up. At the very least, I would have told son to go stay with a friend or called a hotel and gotten him a room until something else could have been done. My child would not have stayed with that roommate for any more time. Maybe Dad trusted the coach and assumed it was taken care of. All I know if my child would not have been in that apartment any longer. I would have followed up until I knew he was moved and if that didn't happen quickly, I've have made something else happen. This isn't hindsight. It's what I would have done. I have to bet Dad is asking himself those questions assuming there isn't more information that we are not aware of.

What I cannot understand, is the resignation of a Coach, who evidently, is needed by his team.

They cancelled the season, he isn't needed at all.

In fact the resignation may just be so he can line up something else.

This situation is a near exact repeat of Baylor Patrick Dennehy murder and the Baylor suspending the Basketball program for a few years. I would not be surprised if the school does not do the same with Northwestern Football.

It sure looks like the coach, ad, and school had very poor controls in place or they intentionally allowed players to get around controls. I expect more heads to role and no coach will want to come cleanup the mess until they know what the mess is.
