NOPD saves OD'ing man in car, guy tries to run cop over & gets killed by cops

Guy was OD'ing in Walmart parking lot. A concerned citizen told police, Officer rushed to give guy Narcan. The guy woke up, freaked out, started to take off in the car with the cop halfway out. Junkie hits the bystander, and is dragging the officer underneath the car, officer shoots him.
He keeps driving then hits a pole, and dies. Crazy arse story.

Was in that Walmart yesterday morning at 615. They already had a guy getting arrested for stealing cough medicine.

Glad the officer is ok.
I know people who are terrified of giving Narcan because of situations like this. Lots of junkies wake up extremely pissed off or confused for ruining their high and go into fight or flight.

Was in CBD last month for work and saw a bum with a booksack that had "NARCAN" written in big permanent marker and an arrow to a zipper pocket. Presumably for whenever he undoubtedly ODs, the first responders won't have to search very hard.

Narcan has caused way more problems than it has solved. You have junkies getting revived 10-12 times, when they should have died years ago.
Not only does it prolong lives not worth saving, it causes them to be even riskier in their behavior because they know Narcan can save them.

Maybe next time, the police officer can remove the keys from the car before reviving the drug addict.
