A few factors at play
3 words that mean a lot
Criminal
Justice
Reform
Democrat Politicians have been running on this platform for decades and we’re seeing the results.
And New Orleans in particular can look at these 2 words as a part of the former 3 words-
Consent
Decree
Brought to us by Mitch landrieu. It makes police lives miserable and increases risk that they’ll get seriously wounded or killed. The job is just not worth it.

THIS^
My understanding is that after you take out detectives, admin, and other back of house, the actual number on patrol is less than half. You then take out for sick, COVID, vacation, disability, etc. and factor in two shifts and days off. Split that across 8 districts and there’s only a few on patrol at any given time.
I’ve heard that in the East, some shifts have only a few cars on the road with single officers, and because of the size of the district, a full siren response time could be 25 minutes even for an officer down.
SCARY

This is the result of finding innocent police officers like Derek Chauvin guilty for appropriately performing their duties.

I’d imagine Paul is discouraging random plate scanning on patrol Officers, checking for warrants and suspended licenses and traffic stops on cars without a plate. I was always surprised at the amount of beat up Honda Accords, and Nissan Altimas that you saw driving around BR without a plate reeking of marijuana.

Part of me thinks that it is all by design
Oh, it’s absolutely by design.
When J.D suddenly dropped his retirement letter completely out of the blue to the 3rd floor, there wasn’t a single attempt to keep him. Wasn’t asked if he was sure this is what he wanted to do or if there was anything that could be done to make him change his mind or if it was something that they had done. He simply got a pat on the back and thanked for his service.
If they aren’t trying to keep someone like him, then they aren’t trying to keep anyone.
It’s all part of their “change the culture” plan.

Nopd does have a bad officer problem, on top of very poor leadership.
NOPD cops manipulating detail pay is low on the NOLA problems list. NOPD officers aren’t the problem. The leadership and the citizens are the problem.

Live in Democrat run cities and you earn Democrat run prizes. Enjoy your high crime rates, lack of security and white guilt.

The blue line is thin. I spent some time getting to know a police force in a small city in Arizona of about 40,000. They were only able to staff about 15 officers on patrol in a given shift. If they had to surge for one incident it wiped them out and they would have been basically unable to deal with a second incident. They relied on radios and the mobility of their police cruisers to compensate for a lack of people. Not a great way to have to do business. I was told most police departments face the same issues.

Mitch put a McDonald's manager in charge of recruiting at one point.
