NOLA the news publication who helped facilitate the loss of officers.

“The city has hired 55 recruits since the start of last year, while 227 have left policework, including a dozen of those new hires. The data indicate a net loss of 172 – about one sixth of the force – since the start of last year.“

“In April, young car thieves allegedly struck Audubon Place, stealing vehicles from two residents of the private street – which is staffed by a guard – after rifling through the vehicle of a third resident.”

“Samuel Senter, another former officer, noted that NOPD has left the responses to many emergency calls to desk officers.”

This actually falls in line with the (less than 250” number of Patrol officers and the worry this number will fall below 150 by July of 2023.

Some white liberals in their gated communities would call this a success.

I personally encourage these displaced officers to come patrol my neighborhood.

Can you blame them?

You're in one of the most dangerous cities in the country, have a moron mayor who provides zero support, and know that any momentary lapse in judgment will cause you to get cancelled.

Sounds like a miserable job to me.

Huge win for the Dems. I’m sure r/NewOrleans is in full celebration while threads keep stacking up asking what can be done about the crime.

The big takeaway is that they are never closing the gap with the current climate and leadership. They've lost 227 officers since the start of last year. They have launched a hiring campaign to some extent over recent months that has seen 55 hired. They've already lost a dozen of those officers.

Meanwhile, officers are still retiring or leaving the force at a high rate. This would be of the utmost concern to any mayor and police chief other than the two currently running things.

I saw numbers earlier this year for a fully staffed NOPD that put the 100% number over 1500.

-But- with the recent staffing losses they’ve had, the actual number was around 960 when I read that article and that count excluded those who were out with COVID. So losing 172 officers means losing about 1/6 of what they have.

People thought we had a "bad officer" problem in this country, particularly large cities, before this trend just wait....
quote:

The most recent police academy graduation featured just eight new officers. Applications have slowed to fewer than seven a day on average, and some days, the city gets only one. Recent history shows only 1 in 50 applicants becomes an officer.

If that isn't scraping the bottom of the barrel, I don't know what is. This has potential to be a major disaster that will take a generation to correct.

Nopd does have a bad officer problem, on top of very poor leadership.

A bunch of officers that have quit & are quitting because they got busted manipulating their pay on details. Go watch Lee zuriks investigation

I applied to NOPD straight out of the Army. My record was spotless, all my references were lined up, I was in great shape and smoked the initial PT test, did the interview...

They got back to me 6 months later with absolutely no contact in between. I had found another job by that point and that is probably the biggest bullet I've ever dodged.

But the consent decree was such a success that everyone wants to be on the NOPD
