Loyola last had a real basketball team in the early 1970’s when they did away with sports. The Fieldhouse on Freret Street where they played was a big arena and the New Orleans ABA team played there as well as the NBA Jazz before the Superdome was completed.

Since the mid 1990’s they have a ‘team’ that plays on the NAIA college level that is fully funded by a fee paid by students. As far as I know, no scholarships, etc.

There is no arena. They play in the RecPlex, which is the athletic center for students. I think temporary bleachers are rolled in for their ‘home games’.

tuition there has to be close to 45k by now:

Why would anyone pay 45k to go to Loyola? That makes zero sense.

not anymore... they've added permanent foldaway seating recently... as you can see by this pic (folded in on the left side of the pic... the right side is solely used for team benches and scorer's table)

I worked there in the early 2000's.
Katrina really did a number on them.

it did... Katrina hit during my last year in pharmacy school... it was very odd when we came back... i still remember rolling up to the pharmacy school entrance and there was an old fishing boat on the fricking steps, just sitting there, after the hurricane...

i was there 2002 to 2006, so we very well could have crossed paths at some point...

Out of town students being within walking distance to uptown NOLA's college bars probably helps with happiness

I drive through that campus everyday to get on the interstate and it's depressing as hell....even the students crossing the street slow down to a crawl hoping to get hit

I hate that street. This and the fact none of those fricksticks that need to take a right to either goto JP and Nola via i10 get in the correct lane. Mad chaos every time. I'll go to Tulane instead.

Actually, I've found that pace of walking across a road is directly related to ethnicity.

Because your parents are Central American drug lords.

That double right turn is the worse fricking turn in the city. The inside car always veers into the left lane turning car and almost always a wreck...if you're not paying attention you could get hit every time you turn

The weekends are the worst because you have drivers that arent used to making that turn trying to make that turn and they dont know what they're doing..

Then Monday mornings are just as bad because you have drivers that are from out of town that slept in Sunday night and are heading back early to get to work wherever they're from.

I don't remember the boat sitting there. We had some damage, not much, on the first floor of the library, where they had to refurbish the computer desks. Water in my office beyond the reference desk simply ruined everything by mold.

Wanda, the campus police's library monitor swore that a 9 foot storm surge came barrelling through the library, but there was not even a single pane of glass blown out by the water, and only two inches or so worth of damage to chairs and such.

Honestly if I could go back I would have went to Auburn instead of where I did go. That place is a blast and the skybar was always a ton of fun.

Remember when Afreaux thought the stats for Xavier of Ohio were the stats for Xavier of New Orleans?

He quit the board in shame over that.
