Yep. Just like they'll be standing behind ladders, tables, and chairs with the new rule.

It's this whole mentality that I despise.

The idea that throwing out an enormous tarp on the Neutral Ground and having one or two people sit on it, makes that your spot is completely obnoxious. The territorial aggression that comes with this entitled mindset disgusts me. The grown women throwing elbows and cursing out revelers and kids because they dared to step on their portion of earth, obviously theirs because they recruited a loser to guard it all day, makes me want to puke.

This is hilarious. You think everyone who has lived in New Orleans has been robbed at gun point or had their car broken into?

At least with tarps you can just walk over them and walk under tents. The grill thing has gotten insane so I’m for that. I couldn’t cross the neutral ground on 4th street last Fat Tuesday, a normally quiet family friendly corner, because the “truck parade people” basically blocked off a miles worth of neutral ground with industrial grills the size of the Bismarck. Complete entitlement. This isn’t your fricking family reunion.

We are talking about the same group.

I'm fine with him getting pushed out. Ruins the area.

We are similar to you, likely bumped into you guys before. More the merrier, all there for a good time and make sure the kids are having fun.

That guy, can't recall his name, is an a-hole.

Adult men getting territorial to catch beads is on same level as Disney Adults.

It has to be at a greater % than most other cities in the country. Maybe Birmingham, Jackson, or Memphis can give y’all a run for y'all's money but I imagine it’s close.

This is the elected official that was voted to represent your city. Enough said.

They can stand behind everyone that got there before them. That's how general admission events work.

Where can you go to a stadium or arena or other area with “general admission” and set up tents, grills, and sofas?

Just think of Jazz Fest. First come first serve for prime space. Cool. But can you block up space with tents and couches??

LNCHBOX says it’s not.

Tailgating, which is essentially what Mardi gras is.

I can name a dozen people I know off the top of my head that have had one of those two things happen to them here in Nola.

Yall act like every last inch of the neutral ground is covered by tents and tarps. That's not even true on Bacchus Sunday.

It sure as hell was true this year. There were literally people trying to claim sidewalk space on the neutral ground on Napoleon. I’m not necessarily endorsing all of the new rules, but people are obnoxiously out of control.

During Hermes, on Napoleon near Magazine, two guys were trying to start a fight with a father WHILE HIS DAUGHTER WAS ON HIS SHOULDERS because he had the nerve to walk over their tarp and between the chairs they had blocking it off. Me and a few friends confronted them about it and they backed down, but it’s insane. And it’s not an anomaly.

And I can name a dozen people who I know that haven’t

ETA: I’m definitely not saying that crime isn’t a problem in New Orleans, but to be “scared” to step foot in the city and imply that everyone who does gets robbed at gun point is an absurd take

I never said I was scared, I’ve been to Nola countless times. I said I don’t feel safe, now I’ll concede part of that is due to not being extremely familiar with it like I am with BR. I don’t trust the city, I don’t like cities with exorbitant amounts of homeless, Austin included. Never know what a crackhead is going to do.

People bring too much shite out to the parade routes. And you certainly don’t need a generator out there blasting exhaust in peoples face.
We do just fine with a backpack ice chest and a regular backpack. And we’ve got a toddler and a kid in tow. Don’t give be that “but muh kids” bs. The kids will have fun regardless.

Tailgating involves the game being played a few feet from you???

But you actually make a great point.

The people who set up tents and sofas on the parade route do not care. about the actual parade.

No different than the people who tailgate at an LSU game and never go into the stadium. But at least there yuh aren’t taking spots away from people who want to watch the game.
