Or the richest plantation owner. Either way it works.

we discussed this at length last week
no one will be bidding this based on this bid package, not because of fear of reprisals but because the bid package includes no engineering guidelines of any kind on how to perform the lift(s) or how to transport them once down, or where they will be going

I'm reposting this because this is the kind of garbage that will replace it.
I'd bet over 90% of the population of NO has no idea what it is for, and that's bad, bad design.

Well, at least after the monuments come down, these nut-jobs will be placated and not push any further agendas on the city.

It represents the seven pillars of the earth and how they united the peoples of the northern hemisphere. Too easy.

NOLA could do what the city of Richmond, Virginia did and put up a statue of a black leader among the civil war leaders.
On their Monument Avenue, there are a bunch of civil war monuments and at the end is a monument of Arthur Ashe.
It looks like he is about to lay the smack down on some kids.

What is really going to piss me off is the cheesedick modern replacements that will surely have some sort of symbolic aesthetic no one would understand without having the artist tell you exactly what he was thinking.

Was it built in the last 30 years or so? Then the answer is probably yes.

Over the last 5 years I guess. They're on West Esplanade, Power, and also on Vets. They make absolutely no sense

No, but it helps those areas not look so barren and give us a bit of color out here.

Two things:
1. Arthur Ashe was a good dude who did a bunch of stuff for people everywhere regardless of their color. Yes he campaigned for civil rights but he also was a leader in health issues for all people.
2. You obviously don't get that taking down the statues has nothing NOTHING to do with history. This is Mitch pandering to a segment of voters in anticipation of running for his next office.

That's a schmuck taken from it's owner via the white devil's tradition of mutilating babies.

Near the intersection of South Claiborne and Jackson, a metal-tubed dome has been erected, looking like some unfinished gazebo. I never knew exactly what the purpose of this dome was because, lacking a roof, it couldn’t serve as shelter from the elements. Thus, curiosity got the better of me and I decided to mosey over and see exactly what it was.
And, it’s a civil rights memorial. Sure enough, this very publication reported that some sort of memorial would be in the offing two years ago, back in May 2012. Apparently I had missed the story, because when confronted with the structure I was downright befuddled.
Points along the border of the dome feature the names and stories of various civil rights legends. It’s educational, at least when you get up close.
Nevertheless, when most people view the memorial they do so while driving by, from a distance....
Then there's this beauty at Martin Luther King and Oretha Castle Haley in Central City.

the sculpture was installed 38 years ago, in 1976, in memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The sculptor, Frank Hayden, explained that “the shape represents life and growth, and the arms and hands are reaching out for brotherhood.”

That looks more like Humpty Dumpty post fall where they decided to give him some extra arms during the put him back together again phase.

I expect they'll all be replaced by statues of MLK. What else would go there?

They reached out but never quite touched. How much money did the City spend on those two beauties?
