Nowhere does it say that you cannot enter a bar at 3 AM. It says that doors must be closed. They were specific about the business remaining open. People can continue to come and go. It's just no more doors stayaing wide open. Although this ordinance is proposed to be citywide, I am sure it is targeted at the French quarter

So people will just have to open the door to enter?

If its like the british pubs, they shut the doors to new guests after a certain hour and the pub basically becomes a private club at that point.

The original WWL article says there is a plan in place to have bars lock their doors at 3am, not admitting new patrons.

ETA: the article from the WWL app.

"Closing their doors but not closing for business every morning at 3am"

I take that to mean no new admittance?

Couldn't it simply mean that they can't have the doors wide open, but instead have to keep them closed so that people could still go in and out, they just have to open the door? Not sure how this would improve safety, but whatever.

And what's your problem? Sorry your frick boy friend can't read. Find another tree to bark up

Officials also stressed that the requirement for bars to close their doors at 3 a.m. is not a curfew. Bars will still be allowed to remain open for business and patrons can still walk the streets after 3 a.m., Landrieu said. The shut doors are intended to dissuade crowds from staying in the streets.

In addition, all bars will be required to have security cameras that feed into a centralized NOPD command center, which is expected to be set up in the next four to six months, allowing police to monitor what is happening inside.

It gives cops power to tell people to toss the hurricane and get moving.

The bigger deal is the NOPD cameras that will go in each bar.

It prevents people from loitering outside bars late at night when people are usually shite faced. Very few shootings happen inside bars on bourbon, they are mostly in the streets. If every bar has its doors closed at 3AM, it's easy for the police to keep people moving

Why isn't the ordinance restricted to Bourbon? In any case, the police don't have the man power to keep the crowd "moving" every night. I was on Bourbon this weekend and the police presence was a joke, as it has been for the past five years or so.

Certain groups don't gonin bars tondrink. They chill outside of the clubs and listen to whatever music is playing, drink their 40's, and cause trouble.
This may make it less enjoyable for them
