Sounds like a hit piece on the advocate. How dare a locally owned company buy the Times-Picayune, which was owned by a company out of New York. Lol

I believe the advocate is now owned by the Chinese

Agree that frenchmen has changed but it's still got a lot of the same stuff as well.

It seems sort of a weird place to cite as evidence of some sort of horrible sea change in long standing local "culture" because if you are old enough to remember it being nothing but a somewhat sleepy bastion of purely local music, you aren't too far removed from it being nothing but a random residential/light commercial street just outside the Quarter with really no music or entertainment options at all.

Shouldn't they be more concerned about the city drowning?

What about that points to Chinese "stakeholders"?

I don't know that you're right or wrong, I just don't understand what that link it supposed to be asserting.

When I click on the link, the page is all in Chinese. Is it coming up differently for you? I also had someone extremely close to the sale tell me it was sold to the Chinese.

Times Picayune chose to market a newspaper with extreme leftwing bias. Apparently there weren't enough people willing to spend money on such a thing. They had the opportunity to cater to a different audience, but decided against it. No loss.

Yeah, it's all in English for me.

That's weird, though, because I opened another website today (it was a bank website) that was all oddly in Russian.

Duuude, that’s really weird. I’m tempted to post a screenshot, but I’m worried the picture will transmit personal info. I’m accessing the site in California if that makes a difference.

I hate these "It was way cooler when everything was fricked up, man" articles written by hipster dufuses (if young) brain dead, old hippies.

The left bias of course had a little to do with it, but newspapers started dying 10 plus years ago

Before this, one could rant and rave anonymously to what was a huge audience.

When? 2001 maybe? For the past 10+ years nola.com was run by insane liberals who shadowbanned everyone who was not a staunch liberal. You didn't even have to violate the site rules. I got tied of having to create new accounts.

Depends when you choose your data point.

In 1960 NO was less than 30% Black and had more than 50% more people.

What killed the soul of New Orleans was integration of public housing and public schools, poor and middle class whites got out of town and poor blacks came flooding in.

The snap shot of NO today is the anomaly in its 300 year history. Only other time Blacks were in the majority is briefly after the Haitian holocaust when mulatto and black refugees came pouring in from that paradise..

How did a place like Atlanta avoid the same fate as a metro area? More area to expand outward in their flight?

The worst thing to happen to New Orleans was Katrina, it changed the whole fabric of the city.

It also made BR significantly worse.

And Houston

New Orleans was majority white in 1970. Has all of it's soul and culture come from the last 50 years?

The city got Mooned between 1970-1978, that’s all you need to know.
