The Kennah Bruh police are also idiots apparently

The Kenner police officer who responded also told Marchand to leave, according to Marchand, who served 25 years as a federal law enforcement officer before retiring.

The Hertz employee is forgiven for not knowing policy. They were kinda dumb but I can see how some folks might not realize Puerto Rican citizens are to be treated no differently than someone coming in from Hawaii.
The cop gets no slack. No excuse for a law enforcement officer not to know the rights of Puerto Ricans on the US mainland. That's just frickin retarded.

To be fair, Puerto Ricans can be very selective on when they want to be U.S. citizens. It can get confusing at times.
At the Olympics? We have the Puerto Rican national team!
After a hurricane? We're U.S. citizens, too! Don't forget to send us tons of money!

You would be surprised at how many people asked if we got our son a passport when we travelled to Puerto Rico in November.

The cop really isn't wrong. The employee told Marchand to leave and he didn't. By the time he got there it was a remaining after being kicked out issue.
The Hertz employee, well shite I might have gotten that wrong too.

I had a professor at LSU say I was being bigoted and culturally insensitive saying Puerto Ricans are US citizens.

Wtf?
The cop can’t make hertz rent him a car.
Hertz told him to leave, cops said he had to leave, which is true. Not sure the issue you have.

You're right the cop was doing his job. But what I didn't put in the quote was that he allegedly told the guy he was going to call border patrol. That's the idiot part

It isn't law enforcement's job to correct Hertz. That's a civil matter. Law enforcement was apparently asked to remove and/or trespass someone. That is what they did.

Kenner PD says this can't be heard on the body cam.

It's 2023. Information is available at your fingertips or you could just call corporate to confirm. Lazy + dumb = poor customer experience.

I was a regional training manager for a large car rental company for 5 years. All rental companies provide detailed training on their software and laws regarding identification needed and address outliers like Puerto Rico. There are potentially serious liabilities involved when such criteria isn’t met. I know for a fact that Hertz has an extremely thorough training program and all airport employees were specifically taught about Puerto Rico.
This person either wasn’t trained to company and/or industry standards or forgot that training. The employee also could have contacted corporate or a manager at any time of any day for clarification.

Its 2023. You would think Hertz software would have a pulldown for the customers home state (or territory).
