People who never did a gig job talking down on gig jobs are the ones I feel sorry for.

I did Waitr, I was making $1300+ a week working a few hours and lunch and dinner 5 days a week.

I do Uber, I make $40+ an hour or I don't drive. On game days you can make $100+ an hour if you drive smart.

I only do gig work while I am back in school, I would never want to do it as a real job. I do it mostly so I don't dip into savings as hard to maintain my lifestyle previous to going back to school.

I drive an SUV I paid $7k for, so no matter what way you try to slice that depreciation/expense pie I still make way more than your average bear.

I know a couple of teachers who deliver pizza and drive for Uber as a side hustle. They enjoy it, and they make decent money doing it. There’s nothing wrong with that.

I even did the grocery delivery thing for Walmart one summer when gas was cheap, and I made enough money to buy new floors for my house. I certainly wouldn’t want it to be my main job, but I did enjoy it, and it paid for that home improvement project. There were a lot of elderly and disabled people who used the service, and it made me feel good to be helping them. I think they also appreciated having a trustworthy person coming to their homes. For those folks, I always offered to take their items inside rather than leaving them on the porch. That isn’t normally part of the job, but I just couldn’t leave a case of water on the doorstep of a little old lady. They usually gave decent tips when I went the extra mile for them. With gas prices what they are now, I wouldn’t do it again, but it was worthwhile when I did it, and it kept me busy that summer.

I think you mean, no able bodied, sound minded person should ever be broke.

Try living in a downtown area of a major city. You’ll see unemployable people every day.

I actually drove Uber for a short period in Corpus Christi because I was bored. I bought a used car for 10k and made it back driving Uber in 5 months.
But I did a spreadsheet and determined that I was averaging $.30/mile.
If the feds are willing to allow $.55 then it meant I was losing money.
I liked it and maintained my car myself. Gave it up during Covid and fees are almost double now.

I can see why you might feel this way. However, no one knows his situation. Maybe he wants extra spending money. Maybe he has a child that he is putting through school. Maybe he is going through a divorce.

The point is he is working and trying to make the best of his situation. That should always be commended in our society. Making a postive contribution.

I had a friend in high school whose dad worked a 40 hr a week job amd delivered pizzas at night. I didn't know all the details but the pizza money was for college education amd car notes

I will NEVER look down on somebody that works hard. Ever.

I know a guy that delivers for Dominos that told me that his average income(counting tips) is 5-7k a month. I'd be lying if I said that the thought of riding around, listening to podcasts, and making that kind of money didn't sound like a pretty good gig.

Same. Have a friend who quit his ‘normal’ job about 2 years ago to deliver pizza’s and he makes about $4k a month. He works 6 days a week, maybe about 6-8 hours a day. During football season they dont have enough drivers. Literally anyone can do it.

He also told me that they are always short on drivers and he works 7 days a week. I can easily believe that he is making that, including tips. Food delivery is very popular here.

Personally, I think that DoorDash is a ripoff and never use those types of services. But I still get a pizza delivered every now and then.

Never has a generation been given so much. It will be interesting to see what they do with it.

There was no reference as to what city the Dominoes driver was working.

In Baton Rouge, likely not.

Westchester County, NY, perhaps.

It’s possible depending where you are. People have to eat.

Hell dominos drivers even have decent cars now.

At that age, all you have to do is pick a business that you think you’d like to work for and start making calls. Odds are you’ll find one that’s hiring.
