Huh???? Are you talking octane? 93 has more than 87.

He's talking about comparative gallons/volume sold between the two, 87 obviously is sold in much higher volume.

My jeep isn't lasting 28 more years.

I'm also not Taylor Swift. Not sure what gave you that impression.

All of it Cherokees haven't had a 4.0 in quite some time and Grand Cherokees come in more flavors than just the SRT.

It's blended at the pump. It's a combination of the two other grades.

I use it. My car calls for premium, but the guy who services it said that I should use mid grade instead. He explained that it had something to do with the ethanol content and water and the premium gas sitting in the tanks too long, thus lowering the octane something something something. He knows more about cars than me, so I'm taking his advice.

Your 'guy' is another one of the many so-called experts who don't know what they're talking about.

Paying extra to get the 93, is a waste of money.

The difference between 91 and 93 is negligible when it comes to your engine. And you can't find 93 out west for the most part. It's 91 max. And you'll see the regular at 86 in some places.

I bought 12 gallons of 87 Oct ethanol free gas for my tractors, generator, chain saws, etc. last weekend from the Race track in Ponchatoula. Added a few gallons to one of my tractors and it wouldn't fire. Smelled the gas and realized it was junk.

Drained the gas tank, carb, and fuel separator bowl. I disposed of all 11 gallons ($33 worth!)bought fresh 93 Oct, added to tractor, and it fired right up. What a major pain in the butt!

I won't buy ethanol free from Racetrack again. I'll have to travel further to get 93 Oct ethanol free gas, but if prevents this hassle again it's worth it.

So you're telling me the cherokee can have a 4 cylinder pos engine, and a grand cherokee can have a 6.4L V8? Thanks.

No, I'm telling you you're trying to be condescending in a car thread and demonstrating a major lack of basic knowledge.

I just drove thru New Mexico and their gas pumps were 85, 87, 91. It was weird for me to see, but it made me buy the mid grade (87).

I remember seeing that in South Dakota about a decade ago. I want to say I looked it up later and the advice was that 85 was ok for carbureted engines, but fuel injected engines need 87 or higher.

While I haven't done extensive research on this particular issue, A lot of times it is about packaging and the way the human mind works. I bet there is a study out there that says that the mid level option increases total revenue to a store over just having two options. It comes down to the fact that humans are bad at judging value and rely on comparisons, and by putting an option that not many people choose you can increase overall sales.
One of the best examples of this is the economist magazine ran a special where:
online only was $80
Print = 120
Print & online = 120
when this was presented over 80% of the people picked print and online, meaning more revenue
Their normal pricing scheme was
online only $80
print only $100
Print and online 120
When this was presented over 60 percent of the people choose online only.
Meaning they made less revenue.
I am willing to bet that smart stations implement this or a similar strategy in order to increase sales of their 93 and thus increase overall profit.

Your vehicle requires 89 per the manual, so not really relevant to my point.

I think they started putting the 3.6 Pentastar in the 16+ models.

I looked at Uconnect account and it’s telling me it’s a 3.2 V6 24V VVT

If your car is designed for premium but doesn't knock with 89, it will also not knock with 87 (due to the computer compensating). What you're describing isn't going to happen.

Yet it does happen. Lexus LX570
