It's becoming more prevalent over there . My Dutch friend now tell me to tip 10% at a nice restaurant and round up at other full service places. And many places, especially in tourist areas, now show at tip option on the CC terminal.

I've been in Europe for the past 6 months. Spain, France, Latvia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia so far. In every country there have been cc terminals that allow to tip. Now in some of the Balkan cities they were less likely to show it on the machine or mention, "no service is included", but in every bigger city they're all mentioning it now once they know you're an American. We have ruined a good thing in Europe because of how we've let restaurant owners allow us to subsidize their employees for so long.
And it's getting worse. Budapest has a 15% service fee on all of their bills in pretty much every restaurant we went to and it shows 5% of that is for taxes. And even then some of the waiters will say oh if you want to leave something for me basically implying the other 10% doesn't go to them. I'm also seeing where the little terminal starts at 10% in some of these bigger cities whereas in the smaller places it starts at 5%.
All to say it's going to be normal to see minimum 10% tip in every city soon enough and it's bullshite. There's no reason to feel you have to tip. Tip if service is excellent which that's about 50/50 in Europe. And you know why? Because they're not going above and beyond for a tip as they already make a livable wage.

Been in Italy for 2 weeks.
Only one place had tip option on cc machine. But it seems like something that is coming eventually everywhere.
As an aside, there are some fine beautiful women over here. Way skinnier and more feminine than some of the cows that we have in the US

Sounds like theft to me.
The customer can't see it...the staff can't see it...Hell, the owner could be keeping 80% of it and who would know.
We went to Chili's the other night because my 7 year old grandson wanted to eat there for his birthday. The minimum pre-calculated tip was 18%...I don't think you can ever get me to 18% at a Chili's.

The waiters are also professionals who know the menu backwards and forwards. They don't give you a blank look when you ask them to recommend something. What I discover when I was in France was I was perfectly fine if I left the waiter order for me or pick the wine for me.

I tip for good service...I expect edible food...I temper my expectations based on where I'm going.
I have a feeling that these places you speak of...with a 70% non-tipping customer base...are not places I go to anyway. Eventually someone will tell the names of those places and I will for sure not go there.

Talk about ignorance smdh. Do you know they get paid an honest wage, therefore, tips aren’t necessary? They got paying livable wages right. It’s right there at your fingertips, but you’ve been conditioned to a point where you still can’t touch it.

I don't eat at Chili's and Olive Garden here and I sure as hell didn't at the equivalent to one over there. The service there was way worse compared to here for the given price point.
The main problem with Europe was they would seat you and it seemed like an eternity before the server came to say hello and take your drink order. They would take your order and bring you your food and that was it. No refills, checking to see if you needed anything, or if your food was as expected. Once you finished your meal they were nowhere to be found to bring you your check.
One restaurant we were tired of waiting for our check that got up and ending up paying the manager before we left.
When it was good it was on par with what you get here but when it was bad it was worse than you would find here.
