That’s interesting . I was just having a conversation last night about how hip hop and rap has fallen off a cliff the last decade or so.

On a similar vein, when Bulls on Parade comes on my playlist on YTM, it's always part of some random compilation album and I always screen shot and send it in my super inner circle group text.

"Pour some sugar on me" gets played more than any of those and shouldn't be played at all

Feels like all geners of music gradually morphed into pop. If it's not pop or pop adjacent it really doesn't get any airtime.

No rap songs are in the top 40 for the first time since 1990
Wow....
Racism?
35 years was quite a run for a genre largely based on vulgar rhymes, tribal mega bass & beats, and 0.0 musical composition & musicianship.

Now, if they’ll just bring back 80s metal, we’ll be all the way back.
But first let's give Folk, Jangle Rock, Sunshine Pop and romantic / story-telling ballads another crack at it, shall we? Those classic genres passed away much too soon.

Those little mumblecore fgts finally killed the genre. That’s something I guess.

but surely Chris Brown counts?
I am not familiar with the song on the chart, but he's far more known for singing than rapping, so I imagine it just means that particular song does not have rap in it.

The day that that shite dies to never be heard again will be the day I believe the country is truly on the right path.

In fairness, the rate at which the rappers are being killed or thrown in jail may be outstripping the supply of new rappers.

I chose grown up work job over Nola Lollapalooza in 92. Pearl Jam, Chili peppers, Soundgarden, STP, ratm...Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone to the show. Been in the same industry since then with a few year break in there. I did double my money on the ticket. So I had that going for me.

I am sure there are a lot of people saying "about time" and I get it, but I listen to all genres of music including rap, however; the shite they make today is just that.. shite.
Awhile back I saw an interview with Mannie Fresh (What part of the Big Timers, Cash Money song producer at one time in the late 90s, early 2000s). He was saying when he did the first hot boyz album, he used an 8 channel beat board. Today you can get free beat making apps with more than 8 channels, but he said today its too easy to make beats that he don't think the younger generation could make a beat from 8 channels if they tried.
There was some skill that went into making beats for songs and rappers being able to flow to the beats. There are songs today where it sounds like the rapper don't even know there is a beat. Then they try to make it so unique that it just sucks. At least put some creativity into it. And all of these rappers are rapping about shite they never experienced.
I remember Michael Irvin was talking about his son who decided he wanted to be a rapper and he let Michael Irvin listen to his son and he told him "you grew up in a gated community you don't know nothing about what you are rapping about". So yeah this doesn't surprise me. We actually need a music revolution, but streaming killed the quality of music.
