Grunge is actually making a comeback. Tons of garage bands on social media all jamming AIC or Nirvana and making their own grunge tunes.
Kids are looking for more real things than some realize. My nephews who are teenagers are starting to discover bands from the mid-2000s like we did for 70s-80s bands. It's the older generations that are addicted to brain rot videos and AI slop. We can't get my FIL who's in his 70s to put his goddamn phone away when we're out to eat.

What about all the rap that’s in country music lately?

Modern mainstream rap is either boilerplate bullshite ghostwritten by the same 3 artists, or it's hyper-violent gobbledegook about "smoking on that ____ pack" made by rappers who are dead or marked for death by the time anyone knows their name.
Social media ruined rap, imo, by 1) homogenizing regional dialects, slang, and culture to the point that everyone under 30 talks the same now and 2) by promoting Chicago gang culture like some kind of salacious Netflix series.
Thus, a genre that supplanted rock for 20 years in terms of popularity and cultural relevance is dying because no one wants to hear shite like this

Interesting. Luther came out a year ago on GNX too so it's been there a while.

No rap songs are in the top 40 for the first time since 1990
Modern rap is pure garbage.

As someone who grew up in the heyday of rap it seems like all the current rap songs all basically sound the same. In the past the beats and backing tracks all sounded pretty diverse depending on where in the country the rapper came from. Like you could definitely tell the west coast vs the no limit/cash money guys, Atlanta, nyc, etc. It was never really my thing but at least there was some artistry to it. Now it’s all the same mumbling crap.

Every single rap song now days isn’t just bad, it’s fricking terrible.
There is nothing catchy or good about any of it.
When you have a rapper named Lefty Gunplay that looks like he has a mixture of Down syndrome and a stroke that is seen as legit, there is no faith in it getting any better

I might need to listen to current music again.

That may be the most optimistic thing I’ve read in years

Limp Bizkit tours have been packed the past few years. A lot of nostalgia, just like the Creed resurgence, but it's also introducing kids to that genre
Does Korn still tour? I know their guitar player, Head, is a born-again Christian now and has gone full in on Evangelism.

Kendrick is to blame for killing Drake
Today's rappers are terrible and make terrible songs. In the past, at least the beats or hooks were catchy.

Honestly it makes sense. There's really nothing hot from rap right now. The last song that was in the top 40 was Safe by Cardi B which peaked at 25. BigXthePlug's track peaked at 35 but that was a country rap song.
There's really no upcoming rap album releases, that will have tracks that crack the top 40.
But honestly, rap feels stagnant right now. Nothing really innovative or impressive. I'm "Unc" age now and just listen to old stuff.

Now, if they’ll just bring back 80s metal, we’ll be all the way back.
Keep trannies in the dark outside of popular culture, thanks.
I think of Iron Maiden, Metallica and Judas Priest. Hair metal was glam, aimed at women.
