Is she on the Homecoming Court?

Possible exception, if so.

Take away her credit card. They wear those dresses one time and can't wear them again. Basically you paid 700 for 3 hours and some facebook pics. And your daughter is gonna expect to do this for every dance now. 3 a year for 4 years

More than that, bruh.

She will have all her events, plus the boy's events.

No reruns.

TV has ruiend teenage girls and mothers. I have threatened divorce several times over spending and stupidity on girls in our house. My youngest got so bad that when she tried something on and didn't like it she would go throw it in the dirty clothes. She would have 2-3 loads of clothes to wash by herself on a daily basis.

ETA: thankfully as they have gotten older it has got better. So don't give up hope

The $700 dress is not your problem. ~~ A wife that spends that kind of money without discussing it with you is. ~~~~ Unless you are in the 1% category.

Honestly, what does it matter?? If she's a good girl why not make her happy. I don't see anything wrong with it

Because most families can't afford that

That is way too much money for a dress, but it's a free pass for a new gun. Dare the wife to say shite.

Great way to condition her for the miserable bastard who's going to marry her.

"Honey, I want to make you happy. So here's some shite we can barely afford."

That's what American love is, after all. Giving people expensive things.

It really is teaching her terrible lessons. It's frivolous and encourages a lack of respect for money. $700 for a dress that only gets worn for one night just doesn't make any sense to me. The fact that women dresses to only ever be worn to one event seems ridiculous enough to me.

Have some perspective dude. 2000 a year for dresses is crazy for most people

I just don't really see the big deal

The median household income in America is $50,500. $2000 is almost 4% of the pre tax income for the average family. For 3 nights. For 1 family member. That kind of spending is unsustainable and irresponsible for the average family. That's a big deal.

That's expensive but not super crazy. I think the wife spent $500 for a dress for the daughters one year old pictures.

Who really cares how much it is if she really likes it

Absolutely to each his own. I'm just too conservative to spend $700 on a homecoming dress OR $500 on a dress for my only daughter (after 2 boys) 1 year old pic. Sure I may love love it BUT I can love plenty of things that are much more reasonable (by my definition).
