Nivea has some good products. It’s kind of weird all these companies feel the need to express their opinions on everything.

This agency should be sued into oblivion. Nivea tried not to take a political stance and to not create controversy and then they leak it to stir it up. Ridiculous

The exception is the implied collective. While "things" is indeed a plural word, "the things" in his sentence refers to a group that is not definable.
No different than saying:
The shite that bothers you people is insane.
You certainly wouldn't say:
The shite that bothers you people are insane.
Admittedly, the sentence has other glaring problems, but the subject verb agreement was correct. Yours would also be correct, but it does imply a slightly different message.
