A New Iberia bicyclist was killed this morning around 6:30am. Struck from behind by a truck while riding in the dark wearing dark clothes.

There’s a gentleman who does this in Southdowns. I swear he has a death wish with all of the distracted moms flying through there.

1. We are getting dumber as a society. See the movie Idiocracy for what is coming.

2. Society used to "police itself." Folks doing dumb stuff were called out early in life, which helped them make better decisions. No one will get involved now.

So, you're saying that the guy had lights so he should have seen the bike rider whilst at the same time saying that there was "light peeking through" so the bike rider didn't need reflective clothing and lights on the front and rear of the bike?

So, dark enough to require headlights but not dark enough to require reflective clothing and lights on the front and back of a bike.

Gotcha.

You can google it, don’t let me take the fun out of it.

Bears are of the order “Carnivora”.

This statement is kinda laughable.
Were his headlights not working?

It's not laughable at all. Even with headlights, it is often difficult to see dark object on the side of the road at night. This is particularly true if it is an older vehicle with older headlights. Animals get hit all the time standing in the road at night.

Just stop engaging this guy. He already admitted that he got picked on by drivers before. He used to be one of these

You won't find reason with this crowd, and that's why our state will continue to fail.

"Around 6:30" when the sun rises at 7 means this cyclist, who has a right to the road by law, should be admonished for his decisions after his death and moreover, he was probably black so it doesn't matter that he died, right?!

It used to be that tragedies were simply that...tragic. Now you have to decide the race/political leaning of the victim before you decide if they SHOULD have died.

Louisiana law requires you to be visible from at least 500 feet and have front and back lights on your bike if you ride before sunrise. This guy was in dark clothes with no lighting an hour before sunrise. I've done a lot of road biking but there's no blaming the driver here. You have to take the appropriate precautions if you want to ride on the road.

He was quite literally riding in illegal conditions. And his name was in he article, he wasn't black. It's sad, but it's not the fault of the driver

I do a lot of cycling in the street and this was a bad decision by him. I wear bright cloths and have lights front and back. I want to be seen a mile away. Sometimes around here I see people wearing dark cloths and have to shake my head.

Same, a bit of self preservation goes a long way, half the time it feels like they're daring someone to hit them. I see this all too often and sometimes these are the results.

Who said anything about him being a certain color and that meaning his death didn't matter?

I’ve driven shitty older vehicles before. I wouldn’t have any trouble seeing a biker on that straight stretch of road in the dark with those headlights. There’s no curve. You shouldn’t miss a normal size human on a bike in front of you.

Animals are erratic and likely weren’t just standing there. They dart into the road at night and that’s how they get hit.
