Well, my friend, bears are definitely opportunistic feeders, and in the spring they’re munching on meat. It appears this driver was a meat eater.

I've seen people riding at night with no lights down the center lanes of both South College and Kaliste Saloom. A lot of the time though it isn't "cyclists" and more so poor people using their only form of transportation.

I use bright lights at night.

I've been a bike rider and racer for years. I'm always quick to ask when this happens "was it a cyclist, or a dude on a bike?"

Cyclists, defined by me as someone who trains regularly, wears cycling gear like a helmet, gloves, possibly lycra etc, and respects the rules of the road (or SHOULD).

Some dude on a bike is defined by me as just that, some dude riding a bike. No helmet, street cloths, ignoring the rules of the road, probably on the bike because of life choices that prevent him from driving a car.

Either one is a tragedy, but the dude on the bike gets a little less sympathy from me.

But don't get me wrong, there are plenty of dumbass cyclists out there giving the rest of us a bad rep. And I don't agree with the hate this board has for us, but I do get it.

So, you're saying that the guy had lights so he should have seen the bike rider whilst at the same time saying that there was "light peeking through" so the bike rider didn't need reflective clothing and lights on the front and rear of the bike?

I’m not absolving the biker from the stupidity of not wearing reflective clothing.

But it’s light enough to see the road at 6:30, especially with headlights. And it wasn’t foggy.

My guess is texting or checking Facebook.

In the Spring bears eat whatever they can find because when coming out of hibernation (if they hibernate, bears in warmer climates only hibernate if they are going to give birth) because they are fricking starving. They will opportunistically feed on meat in early Spring, but they do not have energy to waste to engage prey that may escape predation.

It is pretty damn clear you don't know much about anything.

Exactly. Even when driving a car I'm monitoring other motorist. On a bike you better believe it.

Had a retard riding his bike at night on river road in st charles parish just last week. The levee top is paved now for bikes and jogging. What a dumbass he was.

I'll ask again

Who said anything about him being a certain color and that meaning his death didn't matter?

this is the answer, he was not a "cyclist"

he was hit on the Coteau Hwy coming right out of town.
Driver of the truck probably never saw him

First light was at 6:47am in New Iberia. Sunrise at 7:11am. The guy was totally in the dark. It's sad that he passed away, but it was his own fault.

ETA: like supa and TygerTyger said, I think the news used the word cyclist loosely. The guy was riding a bike. No cyclist is going out before sunrise in dark clothes and no lights.
