Sweden went about this the right way. Yes, they had their spike and a lot of pain. But they seem to be done with Covid. Meanwhile, we wring our hands about whether we are going to educate our children.

If you want to put in some time, do some research on their state epidemiologist and listen to his interviews. Then compare him to Fauci.

They also have one if the worst deaths by capita rates though. What worked in Sweden would be horrifically devastating in other counties.

I’m hoping that’s true for Alabama as well.

Just a heads up. That graph could be hiding test delays. Not saying for sure which way the rates are going, but the graphs usually tail off during the last week before cases are backdated.

There are at least 5 other countries ahead of them that had stringent lock downs...

And you are not factoring in other deaths, in particular suicide due to collapsing economy.

And also, as their deaths stop, other countries will CONTINUE to have deaths because they are stringing it out.

Yup. Their economy went to crap in a hurry. Swedes were banned from entering neighboring countries as well.

It's interesting. Yesterday, there were only seven countries that had a triple digit number of deaths due to Coronavirus. Those countries are the UK, USA, Mexico, Iran, Brazil, Russia, and India. All of those countries have right-wing authoritarian leaders except Mexico.

That’s only 5 countries.

Literally overt other one is behind them.

And if you look at their immediate neighbors they did infinitely worse.

Well, depends how you look at it.
-Those under 70 with no comorbidities only represented 3% of deaths
-26% of deaths were over 90yrs
-41% of deaths were between 80-90yrs
-22% of deaths were between 70-79yrs
-85% of deaths linked to at least one comorbidity

However, the Scandinavian nation ranks eighth among countries with the highest number of COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 people. It outranks the U.S. and Brazil, which are the world's first and second worst-hit nations in terms of total cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.

It’s neighbors Finland and Norway are also doing great after shutting down and having significantly less cases and deaths.

Also, Sweden has 5.743 deaths in a population of 10.1 million. That’s is over .5% of their population dying.

Which is pretty bad compared to their neighbors and is one of the highest death rates in the world.

Sweden is also counting anyone that dies within 30 days of testing postive as a CoviD death.

And I want to say that Norway was only counting hospital deaths, but I could be wrong on that one.

Sweden's excess mortality rates are not outside of their norms so far this year, either.

Fact of the matter is, the majority of deaths are in people that were spared by the last two mild flu seasons.

Sweden's economy didn't have nearly the downturn of its neighbors.

Edit:

The downvoters can get fricked.

A report from Capital Economics published on Tuesday found that the Swedish economy was the least harmed in Europe, describing it as the "best of a bad bunch."

Though Sweden was not immune to the pandemic's economic impact, it was the only major economy to grow in the first quarter of the year, the report noted.

Of the 4,810 who died of Covid-19 by mid-June, 90% were over 70 and 82% over 75. In addition, 85% had at least one comorbidity, and 74% were either in care homes or had home help. Only 1% of people dying of Covid in Sweden were under 50. Even in the modern era, it is not unusual for seasonal viruses to claim up to 3,000 lives in Sweden, and any Covid fatalities must be seen in the perspective of other causes of death, for instance cancer and heart disease, which claim a far greater number of lives. This year's final death toll in Sweden will be influenced by demographics and the low number of deaths seen in 2019, which saw a correspondingly mild influenza season.

Swedish Covid Stats

Doesn't seem like they did poorly, IMO

it's about perspective/time

if there is a vaccine ready for the world in December, Sweden's death rate will look very bad

if there isn't a vaccine by...summer 2021? they will probably look a lot better

Sounds nice until you realize Sweden still has one of the highest 2 week rates in Europe. They are just falling from a horrendous recent level that other countries have not seen in months. Sweden also has the 8th highest number of deaths per capita in the world.

Their recent rates of cases, deaths, and positive tests are still among the highest on the continent.

If you want to play this Left vs. Right game non-sense, which party is running the states that are driving the US's high numbers?

This doesn’t make sense. Are you saying that our COVID cases are out of control here because the blacks, whites, browns, and yellows can’t get along? Are you sure it isn’t because Swedish people are hopelessly obedient to everything their government tells them?

You may like their demographics, but it has nothing to do with this.
