Welcome to Texas pilgrim. Be sure and wash your hands thoroughly at the first gas station after you exit NOLA city limits.

Sad to see that once great city decline like that.

Katrina ruined Houston

Katrina's effects on Houston are negligible. 7 million in the metro, and like 20,000-30,000 were added during the storm and most returned. That's 0.4% added to city during storm.

What really isn't discussed a lot here is Katrina's effects on Shreveport. Shreveport got 25,000 to 30,000 refugees in Hirsch Coliseum and churches/others. Something like 150,000 people stayed in Nola during the storm, so Nearly 20% went to Shreveport for Katrina. Shreveport's metro is 400,000 compared to Houston. A 25 to 30,000 increase is like 8% increase in population during the storm.

Being from Shreveport, there were some who stayed that I remember.

Very eloquent.

A loss of yet another educated contributor to society.

You get what you vote for NOLA

Cuck or not, he ironically took heat for writing a column in defense of Louisiana native and conservative Supreme Court Justice Amy Comey Barrett, who is some sort of relative of his.

Stop. Blaming. Katrina. A bunch of that dump arse city scattered, which *should* have made things better, but it was an opportunity for (D)em to double down on stupid racist shite.

You obviously didn't take the time to read it before commenting. He didn't blame Katrina.

He said that Katrina almost killed the city overnight (but didn't). He said that what is happening now to the city is like a frog being slowly boiled alive without knowing... yikes!

"I voted for this shite every election for sixty years and it is a nightmare, so now I will leave for another city to ruin."

I made mention to some family the last couple of weeks as I was driving out west, criss crossing the Rockies, that there were a LOT of UHauls heading east. Driving across Nevada to Wyoming I saw it was all Oregon and California plated vehicles pulling or being pulled by Uhaul equipment. The plague migration is real.

Well written stuff but that’s his job. To write well.

My takeaway is that he’s gotten too old to deal with the rigors of living along the coast- not just New Orleans. It happens to a lot of old people. Leaving for higher ground makes sense.

I also find the article to be a bit of a self absorbed whine. Like we care that he’s leaving for Houston? So what?

He's moving to Houston, not Fayetteville.

bullshite, most people I meet aren’t from New Orleans, they moved there.

Friends hometowns that live in New Orleans. Dallas, Metairie, Hattiesburg, lake Charles, Longview.

My one good buddy born and raised in New Orleans lives out in Metairie with his wife and kids.

He’s moving to get away from the rigors of living on the coast. Houston evidently is that place and he has family there. If they were in Fayetteville, he’d be moving there.
