Yeah well good riddance to BR.

When one moves (particularly when they move more than an hour or two’s drive away), there are some things they take with them and some things that are permanently left behind which they must recreate in the place they move to.
Its a great opportunity to create new things, instead of just re-creating the issues that drove them out to start.
Best thing to do is get rid of all your shite and start brand new, regardless of age.

What I do not get is on every single thing he mentioned Houston is only marginally better than NO, hurricanes and crime?

That was very well-written, but yeah, I get your point, too.

To sum it up succinctly: "But in the last five years it feels like something has slipped, at least temporarily. A word comes to mind: Detroit."
Detroit 2008.. sure.
But, Detroit is rebuilding itself very well, and in the year 2023, you're very less likely to be a victim of crime in Detroit than you are in New Orleans.
New Orleans had its' chance to rebuild after Katrina tried to wipe it off the map, and it fumbled the chance quite badly.

Say what you will about Nola but it has character and a long history. It’s one of America’s favorite cities. Always has been always will be. People love visiting New Orleans to experience it’s distinct culture and uniqueness.
Houston is just an endless sprawl of concrete full of people from all over the world. So much that it waters down any distinct culture. Sure there’s culture. It’s just so overwhelming that it all blends together and you have no idea what you’re looking at. Who truly wants to or looks forward to visiting houston the way they do Nola?
Houston more closely resembles Los Angeles than it resembles the southeast. Mostly Spanish influenced with too much international influence mixed in there. Any Texan/southern identity is long gone in Houston.

He has adult kids in Houston. He says it right there.

1000% chance that guy voted for everything he just whined about. It boggles my mind how childish you have to be to not see the results of the policies you supported for decades.

Sorry, they’re not life-long New Orleanians if they’ve been living in Houston for years.

All of that is dying. In a generation all that will be left is black people and purple haired lesbians.

First of all, do you honestly not believe that black people strongly influence the culture of Nola?
Second, there’s always been gays and liberals in Nola. Some of y’all are drama queens it’s not that serious.

The amount of people moving out of Orleans Parish is simply stunning right now. Honestly it’s shocking. The property tax hike is the death knell.
What proof do you have of this? Housing market seems to have not slowed down a ton given crime and interest rates.

Hell the property taxes in Houston area are ten times worse. North shore isn’t much better

Sure. That doesn’t negate my point though.

This paragraph right here is at the root of the problem. And the worst part is that it isn't even true any more. Fewer and fewer people feel this way about NO, and many have no interest to come to a city that puts them at risk of being a crime victim. They are going to places like Nashville and Vegas instead.

Actually, I’d take Houston 20 times over NOLA.

What is there to do in Houston as a visitor opposed to Nola?
Talking as a visitor not living in these places. Houston is definitely a better place to live but let’s talk tourism
