No way there’s a shark it that clip. If he were being eaten alive, there would be a hell of a lot more panic in not only him, but everyone on that boat.

Sadly, that family might not ever find out exactly what happened other than him jumping overboard. There's potentially something in the water with him but I'm not sure if that took him under. Something caused that kid to start swimming away from the buoy. Maybe it he was just disoriented.

Someone posted this on twitter saying there’s a girl in the background screaming “There’s a shark!” at the 10 sec mark

That girl can be heard, very clearly, saying “Cameron Robbins jumped in the water”.

She never says shark. It’s very audible she is saying his name. Listen to it.

Also, there is another girl when Cameron starts moving toward the back of the boat saying “the current!”. At that point when the phone pans in a circular motion you can see him floating towards the back of the boat through the netting. This is all after the “shark” pulling him under. Watch it in slowmo and it can clearly be seen he is above water floating backwards (58 second mark) as the water current takes him behind the boat. He’s stud above water the whole time until the phone cuts out.

talk to any fishing charter and they will tell you there is no way I would jump in the water with the marine life they see on fishing trips

Last time I went tuna fishing in the Gulf we had about a 6 ft tiger shark come up and bite about a 50 lb tuna I had hooked in half right next to the boat

A 25lb tuna is still a pretty nice catch

We just cut a few inches back from the shark bite and cleaned the rest of it

After watching that recent vid, how’s a Louisiana “boat dad” (or anyone) supposed to do anything differently steering in that situation?

Because no one saw him being eaten alive. It grabbed his leg and pulled him under. It happens so fast that most people didn’t even notice the first time they watched the video.

The chances of there being a shark immediately next to the kid as he jumped in is highly unlikely. There are far less sharks than you think in the ocean. Unless they were chumming the waters, it’s highly unlikely

you know what snorkeling trips on cruise boats do first
they send out scouts to look for any potential hazards - sharks! before they let anyone in the water

"Estimates show that there are as many as 1 billion sharks in the world. This means there’s a shark for every seven or eight humans. They can be found in every ocean in the world and just about every oceanic habitat, including the open ocean, deep sea, coral reefs, shallows, and beneath Arctic ice."

I've done a lot of diving/fishing in the Bahamas, there are representatives from everything that lives in the ocean down there, and just like animals in, Yellowstone for example, they adapt/gravitate to food sources, and get somewhat comfortable around humans, in touristy areas a lit boat with a bunch of people throwing stuff off of it starts the food chain in motion, haven't seen the video and not saying a shark was involved but I guarantee you if there were smaller fish hanging around the boat looking for tidbits, there were sharks nearby, looking for "tidbits"

When I was aboard ship they would caution everyone to stay away from the rails before they would toss garbage, including food waste overboard. I never took it seriously till I saw a group (a shiver) of sharks tear into the bags. Let me say the sharks weren’t gentle about it.

Look up how many of those are 6 feet or larger. It’s far less.

Many people believe that sharks are very big. But only a few of the nearly 500 shark species reach a length of more than 13.1 feet (4 meters). Most of them measure between 24 and 40 inch (60 and 100 cm).
