No idea but it's really making sense why they called off the search so quickly.

Just getting up to date since the long weekend with no internet. I see there is a shark theory now.

My question is, I guess there has not been a recovery of a body?

was it really terminated that quickly? didn't they search for three days? Seems normal to me.

Shark attack on humans are so rare, sure it is possible, but sharks do not even like the taste of people, the vast majority of shark bites are the shark attacking as a defensive move, and then letting go after they taste it is a human. Read the book "Close to shore" about the deadliest shark attack in US history in 1916. It lays all this out.

From what I recall, when the two boys went missing from FL, they searched a week or more.

Also, the two grown men. One was a firefighter. Those searches lasted longer than just 3 days.

oh yeah, I agree, it's not like sharks are diabolical, meanies just lurking out there waiting to maim humans, I'm just saying that they were nearby, and it a feeding frenzy it's bite first, ask questions later

How do we know this? did sharks take part in a taste test or submit reviews to yelp

lots of research on this, a lot of shark attacks are "bite and run," and a case of misrecognition of the target, ex., a surfer paddling out to catch a wave apparently resembles a seal, or something on the shark's menu, the shark hits, immediately realizes that's not what he/she/they thought it was, then spits it out in disgust

go read the thread on the missing boater in St. Francisville. They searched 20 hours in the Mississippi River and transitioned to a recovery (insteda of S&R). I'm assuming authorities in the Bahamas did the same given the kid had no PFD, was likely drunk, pushed a life ring away, and it was at night. They know the waters, they know the currents. They probably knew relatively quickly the liklihood of him surviving. Doesn't dismiss the shark theory. But I think locals know from experience how long to search for a missing swimmer.

this is a biggie that I haven't seen mentioned, it's not like the sea is a huge bath tub, there are powerful currents there, and a drunk kid jumping off a boat at night with no PFD doesn't stand much of a chance

ETA: I've done some pretty dumb things down there too, luckily got away with them, all 100% alcohol related

I wouldn't bother with her. Iirc, she was in the thread with the girl being killed after a night at reggies just running with anything being thrown out there. Basically had to be told to leave the thread because she ruined it nonstop

This. Just when I was starting to seriously consider the shark theory, LSUAngel popped up as its spokeswoman. Now, I am more convinced than ever he was not attacked by sharks.

I’m just referencing the last two big stories of people lost at sea.
