Huntsville Hospital System laid off over 2,000 employees during the first wave. They then tried to complain about being short staffed when they were "being overwhelmed". Turns out that they were neither short staffed nor overwhelmed.

Lots of large hospitals with money to burn are short on nurses too. A lot of ICU/COVID qualified nurses are travelling to make the big bucks in the hardest-hit areas.

Wife just got texted from the agency that sent her to NYC this year: a hospital in Montana is paying $4,600 / week.

I'm like, honey, you know you like snow.

Good husband! This pandemic can't last forever, send her out to see the country and make bank while she can.

Do you blame them for staying home with their kids and collecting unemployment?

Can you claim unemployment if you are choosing not to work?

The Mrs stays at home with our 4 year old since the schools weren't going to operate like normal. She was planning to go back to work once our son started school. So basically she isn't working because of this stupid covid crap.

Under-reported for the most part but a real issue. There are some bad things happening from unsupervised folks "working from home" and out of work.

Someone just told me yesterday about a family member of theirs having a breakdown a few weeks ago and now having to do multiple hours of tele-therapy every day. The family member is a smart person with a good career and all.

Yes, I've had two very similar stories in my immediate and extended family. Circumstances made it very convenient and easy for one to take to the drink and it became an issue really quickly where it had not been before. Got ugly.

Already trying to figure out ways to properly shift money around for a couple years so I can best get back some of the federal dollars I have contributed infinitely more into than I have ever received in return.

CBS says total costs will be $16 trillion

The coronavirus pandemic will end up costing Americans $16 trillion, far more than anyone predicted when the virus first emerged in the U.S. back in March, according to a new study released on Monday.

Of course, this is just another strain of "experts" so they likely cannot find their asses with both hands either.

A trillion is one million million dollars (12 zeroes vs. 6 zeroes, easy)

That means even if all this bullshite saves 4 million lives which even the biggest fearmonger doesn't remotely approach, that is $4 million per life.

If it is only 2 million, that is $8 million per life.

That is fricking ridiculous, especially considering most of any projection of deaths will be people over 65.

That is a very simple calculation. You will never see anyone associated with a major news outlet do it.

They can't burn their money on staff because they need it for executive bonuses. Bastards

Hospital #1: CEO of hospital my wife (no pics) works at just sent out an email to all employees about forgoing thanksgiving with family because it is the right thing to do.

Hospital #2: Hour later she went to a mandatory training class at the other hospital she works at, she described it to me as "they crammed 10 of us in a room smaller than our master closet for an hour of remedial bullshite".

Hospital one also sent out an email last week informing all employees that they aren't doing well enough containing COVID on their campus and they banned all communal eating and added more rules for employees etc. Just a short time later they also sent an email stating that the unit who finished their required yearly training first would be rewarded with a pizza party.

These a highly respected hospitals feeding very educated staffs this complete horseshite. COVID is the greatest circle-jerk of our generation.

The new thing on the news is not talking about running out of icu rooms but not having enough staff. I know my wife’s hospital is on a hire freeze because they lost so much money when everything got shut down. They did away with all regular appointments and elective surgeries causing them to lose a ridiculous amount of money and now they can’t hire anyone. Seems like this is a self inflicted wound that could have been avoided.

We would hire 20 RN's tomorrow, if we could find them. We have wings/units of our hospital which are closed because we can't staff them... and we are holding patients in the ER who can't be sent to the units, because of this staffing shortage.

Some hospitals are doing so well they are giving employees temporary bonuses while others are circling the drain. Either way the government absolutely screwed hospitals when they cancelled elective surgeries because that's where all the money comes from
