Australian journalist Kirsten Drysdale is currently in a newborn bliss bubble, having recently welcomed her third child with her husband Chris.
There’s just one problem.
Her son’s legal name is Methamphetamine Rules.

The Mackay-born TV presenter had been working on a story for the ABC’s WTFAQ program, which aims to investigate the answers to viewers’ burning questions.
‘What can I legally name my baby?’ has come up consistently.
While researching for the story, a then heavily pregnant Drysdale was trying to decipher what the Registrar default names a child if the parents’ first submission is rejected.
She wasn’t getting a clear answer from the government body’s media team, and as she was about to give birth, Drysdale decided it was perfect timing to take matters into her own hands.
“We thought, what is the most outrageous name we can think of that will definitely not be accepted?” Drysdale

quote:
Weeks later, Drysdale got quite the push present when the official birth certificate arrived in the mail, with ‘Methamphetamine Rules’ listed as her son’s given name.
“I don’t know how it slipped through,” Drysdale said. “I’m not sure if someone was overworked, or if it was automated somewhere.
“Or possibly, maybe they thought Methamphetamine was a Greek name.
“They haven’t really given us a clear answer.”

Wow. Can’t get what you want, so you ruin your kid’s life.

Did not expect this to come out of Australia. Florida would make more sense

Government shouldn’t be getting involved but this bitch is making her name off something her kid’s going to have to live with even if it gets changed.
No one involved looks good here.

New South Wales should be viewed in the same light as "Florida Man" or "Ohio Man".

Sounds like she was testing the system for research purposes. Even though thats still shitty in the name of your child. Article even says she has a real name for the child. I'm sure she'll legally change it.
Not sure how this ruins their life.

I like her style. Showing the bureaucracy can't answer simple questions by their very own media team is just as silly as naming a kid Meth Rules.

Good for Australia. What legitimate function does the state have in deciding the names of individuals?

fricking with your newborn kid's life for internet content. So depressing.

Australia is the Florida of the Commonwealth.
Jamaica is the Louisiana.
Scotland is the Minnesota

Her nickname could be Crystal

If you read the story, it's actually admirable. She was fricking with the government, and did not anticipate their level of incompetence.
This is easily fixable. It's not like she will leave that as her kid's name.
