A New Zealand supermarket chain announced that it was temporarily removing all scissors and knives from its shelves following an attack that left several people injured at one of its stores on Friday.

A general manager of supermarket chain Countdown said it was also considering if they would sell such items in the future. “Last night, we made the decision to temporarily remove all knives and scissors from our shelves while we consider whether we should continue to sell them," Kiri Hannifin, Countdown’s general manager for safety, said in a statement on Saturday.

This is in no way a reflection on our customers, but an act of support for our team. We want all of our team to feel safe when they come to work, especially considering the events of yesterday,” he said.

Absolutely should blame knives and scissors.
All those times people walked right past them and there wasn’t mass casualties from the knives and scissors is a miracle

Crazy story. They knew the stabber was dangerous but had to let him out of prison. A team of cops were following him around the clock and were outside the store when he went off.

Clearly they are in serious need of some common sense knife control laws.

Yea, those assault scissors should be banned post haste.

They’re in need of being conquered. It’s pretty clear that the Anglosphere needs its own reset.

sounds like they are about as competent as our FBI

Perhaps they should remove all the pens and pencils. Chopsticks.
Windows could be broken and used to stab someone too. In fact, all the glass needs to go.

It's always the object and not the person behind the object.

He's a cook, plain and simple... He's good with cooking knives...

On Friday, a Sri Lankan national who was previously known to security forces in New Zealand entered a Countdown supermarket, going after several customers and stabbing them, witnesses said.
So he didn’t get the knife from the store?
So this accomplished NOTHING

I thought this was a Babylon bee story. Sadly not.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. If I am a grocery store owner and something like that happened at my store involving a product that doesn’t generate much profit, I’d eliminate it also.
