there's a number of threads on the food board if you search that will give you a ton of great restaurant options spread throughout the city.

for other things to do, i'd suggest the highline if the weather cooperates for you. nice walk along the west side. also if you go to central park, the northern side and the north woods is a nice, secluded area. you could also take the tram from the east side to roosevelt island. the way back gives great views of the city.

I don't know man. I think I remember this place getting ripped to shreds by a lot of people.

If you have any interest in military history you could take a day trip to visit West Point. Has an incredible military muesem, Revelutionary War Fort and of course the Military Academy.

Metro North offers a bus from Port Authority or you can catch a train from Grand Central to Garrison. Once you are at Garrison it may take a while to catch a cab.

So many great things to do. You really should visit the 9/11 memorial and the museum. The view from the Top of the Rock is wonderful (though touristy) The new Freedom Tower is open now too and is supposed to offer fantastic views. I highly recommend taking in a Broadway show---one of the greats like Phantom of the Opera or Wicked. You can take guided tours of Central Park, which is BEAUTIFUL and interesting. The Metropolitan Museum is spectacular (you could spend days just in the Egypt exhibit! ) It's a MUST see. One day a week (Wednesday, I think? Or Tuesday?) you can take a tour of Gracie Mansion (the mayor's residence) which sits alongside a park next to the East River--quite beautiful and a lot of history. Visit St. Patrick's Cathedral.

as for restaurants stay away from chain restaurants and enjoy some of the wonderful locally owned places. If you're in the Times Square area, I like a little hole in the wall called Sosa Borella on 8th Ave. at 50th St. (across from the Hampton Inn) Great food and atmosphere. For a good breakfast, Daniela's Trattoria also on 8th Ave.

I am here now. Hard not to do touristy as the city is packed and all the neat things seem filled with tourists. We like to absorb each area of the city. West Village so historical and we enjoy sitting outside at Barbuto for dinner. The High Line is nice and we enjoyed people watching and drinks at the Standard. The Whitney Museum opened nearby. A play is always nice. We walk each morning on West Side Hwy and you can see the Statue of Liberty from there. Not sure if you have been before and done Empire State Building and Central Park yet. Touristy though. TriBeCa nice for slower pace. Locanda Verde really good. Good news is weather clears Monday!
