You can't spend a couple decades pushing narcotics on the general public to the point that you get them dependent on the shite, and seemingly overnight clamp down on that supply. You can't change laws that cut people off, many with real need, overnight, making it harder or nearly impossible for them to get their meds, and expect the black market not to boom. Junkies are nothing new. The influx of what used to be law abiding citizens being treated for legitimate issues into that group is.

How many kids were given adderall or SSRI before they have any concept of what they are taking?

I do not know why we are surprised that we have a generation of people that didn't think twice about abusing prescription pills

I do not think older people appreciate just how easy it was to come across opioids or xanax for the better part of the last 30 years. It was everywhere when i was in college

Agree. Let them do their thing and don’t rescue them.

Simply “regulating” drugs isn’t the answer.
It absolutely is the answer for those ODing on fentanyl when they think the purchased something else

Call me a cynic, but I’m not worried much about junkies, alcoholics, etc. There isn’t much as a society we can do to help them. But those ODing on products due to then being sold something else? That’s a problem 100% being created by the government themselves
You think the govt can manage legalizing and controlling distribution of drugs like coke, heroin to the point there's no black market? And therefore no fentanyl?

Well I wonder, we've more or less legalized weed in many states. Let's see how that's going...

Huh, everything I read is the black market is running all the good guys out of biz.

Weed black market strangled Ca legal weed, now setting up NY for failure.

I don't think trusting OUR government to regulate drugs like heroin, meth, coke, etc. is going to work the way you think.

I mentioned nothing at all about that.

So you trust the government to regulate something but blame them for creating the problem?

I am when doctors are willingly prescribing opiods and various other forms of addictive drugs. They help create junkies that then need to explore other avenues to get a fix.

Regulating all drugs and making them legal isnt the answer. There will always be the next black market item or concoction to one-up whats currently "approved"

shite Four loko was approved and seemed harmless at the time. That got pulled off the shelves real quick.

Kids were getting pills off the street and it was laced with fentanyl?
from what i understand some were just straight up taking fentanyl. There were issues of some kids having laced drugs but alot were just straight up going for the real deal.

Anyone who thinks the current tactics of drug enforcement (criminalization) in this country are even moderately effective in addressing this issue is incredibly dense.

With regard to the sentiment that a 20 year old kid who makes a mistake partying deserves to die as that’s a risk they’ve “accepted,” people need to take a hard look in the mirror on their own behavior in their youth. Fentanyl would be easily eliminated from a regulated market, but because the market is illegal, we have no way to control it and otherwise promising people are dying in mistakes of naïveté.

You are spot on. The people who say things like a 20 year old gets what he asks for are merely saying that, for the most part, out of bravado. They do not mean it most likely because it would be hard to gather as many psychopaths in one forum as have posted that sort of stupid shite in this thread.

But what about the 20 year old pre med student just looking to party like millions of other adults have done in their youth and they get fentanyl laced drugs and “boom, dead”

A 20 year old pre med student knows better than to take street drugs and knows more than anyone the danger in it.

I would hope they would act on that and just take another shot.

I've never been in a situation where I wished I had some narcan to save a stranger.

I think alot on this board would be shocked at how many doctors and surgeons actively do coke, not just used to when they were younger….

The logical question is why does the government decide what drugs are legal and what aren’t therefore becoming “street drugs”? Especially when you consider one of the most addictive drugs and dangerous drugs to others is legal

I have some disappointing news for you.

ETA: Research suggests the best and brightest among us actually do more drugs on average.

I just came back from checking on a rental unit of mine in the ghetto. My grass crew called to tell me someone stole the A/Cs. I checked the pawn shop close by and I am pretty sure they are there. The pawn shop people couldn't confirm 100% without a police report so I am back home getting the receipts so I can go file the report.

I know who probably stole them and the dude is a meth head. He was renting the house and I kicked him out a few weeks ago for not paying rent. He was clean for about a year but fell off the wagon. I have no doubt it was him.

I don't know many people who steal and pawn to buy booze. Most just beg on the corner. With meth though people will do some despicable things to get that fix.
