New washing machine recommendations
Posted by meeple on 6/24/17 at 8:47 pm30
I'm fed up with our 5 year old high efficiency top load washing machine. First, a section of the bucket sheared off due to some off nominal spinning. See details here.
Now we started hearing strange noises during the spin cycle and then the lid dies not unlock. I manually sprung of open, now it will not respond to any commands.
What should I get to replace this with because I'm assuming that any repairs will be hundreds of dollars anyway.

Everyone will say speedqueen.
Maytag or whirlpool $500 from lowes does the job, though.

Maytag top load with agitator. Love it so far but I've had it less than a year so can't vouch for its longevity. But it does have a 10 year warranty on some parts and 5 year warranty on the rest. That seemed to be the best standard warranty I could find.

This. I have had two Maytags in my life. Both lasted over 20 years.

I have a bare-bones maytag top loader as well that has given me no problems at all for about 10 years now. I don't wash much though, so if you have a family or expect hard use, you may have to get something a little more robust than what I have.

Id get the cheapest name brand washer you can find. The design will be from 20-30 years ago which means the parts are cheap and easily available and all the bugs have been worked out are will be well k own and easy to diagnose via the internet.

Definitely not the Samsung front loader. A piece of junk.
Had an expensive ($800) front loader and hated it from Day 1...finally after a 5 years said I have enough of this montronsity and moved it to the street where some idiot took it in 30 minutes.
Based on posts here (Thanks Napoleon) I bought an open box, bottom of the line Roper for $129 at Lowes and I couldn't be happier. While sometimes it is a little noisy...it just works!!

Or get a speed queen and not have to worry about it for 20 years.
