Would you engage those weapons while armed with a Glock?

Leaving aside what you or I WOULD do, the truth is that NOT engaging in those circumstances is cowardly and should be condemned unequivocally.

Damn the thought process that would lead you to any conclusion but that.

But write an anti-vaccine facebook post and see what happens.

Yea and the reality of it is that most of us are cowards.

I'm sure in Australia the police are not obligated to engage. Isn't that the case in the US?

For that reason alone, I can't wrap my head around how anybody would place their trust in law enforcement to be their sole line of defense against bad guys.

Gun noob here: Would you have to close a considerable amount of range for the MP5 to be effective in this scenario?

Agreed. Even if you’re engaging out of range, you can still keep the attacker at bay until better equipped reinforcements arrive

If your a cop anywhere in the world you should have a weapon/weapons that can stop an attack. Idgaf what people think about those women if they didnt have a gun. If given a chance yes bum rush a mofo! But no man or woman should be expected to run up in a gun fight and sacrifice themselves to save people. If it were my kids and family, wouldnt think twice about pursuing and putting my life in danger so they could escape or time for someone to intervene. But i be damned that im gonna go in a suicide mission to protect strangers bc my government or job ill prepares me for an event of this magnitude. NOPE frick THAT

Effective at winning the fight, yes you need to be fairly close. Effective at getting them to stop shooting at innocents and start shooting at you instead, it'll work just fine from 100 yards for that, and you might get lucky and wing one of them.

It can't be stated enough - you don't have to win. You don't have to John Wayne them when you're outnumbered and outgunned. You just have to convince them that they aren't on a free range murder spree anymore and somebody is shooting back at them.

Now as I said earlier, when everyone else is still 10 minutes away from returning fire, you're probably fricked if the shooters decide to put the moves on you. Odds are they won't though, and every second they spend worrying about you is one more second for one more innocent person to escape. If you can shoot back, with anything, from any range, you shoot back.

Would’ve been a lot worse if they had AR-15’s w/ 30 rd mags vs the shotgun or bolt actions they were using.

If you need a legal obligation in order to engage threats, you shouldn’t be LEO.

We need people in those roles who would assess the situation, say a quick prayer for their families, and then say Let’s Roll with a little bit of excitement in their voice.

Everybody else can fricking pound sand.

Are you saying the only option to those 2 things is to shoot the person?

That is a stupid question.

The capacity to kill someone goes a long way in keeping picayune confrontations from escalating too far.

And when they do, it is best if the good guy is the one with the ultimate power.

Effective range of MP5 is 200 meters. I personally know a fed agent that shot a guy in the head at 109 yards. It’s a very accurate gun and the 9mm is still cooking along pretty decently at 150 yards. I have two and shoot steel all the time at 100 yards with a red dot. Not especially germane to your point other than they would have done just fine against these guys with the MP.
