New (to me) hostile architecture for medians / neutral ground?

Was at a light at a Texas intersection that used to always have bums panhandling. No bums in sight. Noticed the new brick work in the median where they used to stand. Sure looks like it would be awkward to stand and walk on.

I approve.

Edit. Found a reddit thread where they were bitching about this. But they did have a better picture than mine:

Someone in the thread mentioned this could break an ankle and cause the city a lawsuit. Hope this doesn't get taken down over a lawsuit. We need more of this.

Japan uses benches like these to keep people from street drinking and sleeping.

I went to the hostile architecture subreddit and this was the first post I saw.

Since this is reddit I’m sure the mods will remove it very soon.

99% of the sub is pictures of benches that make sleeping on them impossible. Kinda fascinating.

Bums will just lay a piece of plywood over them.

I could find a way to sleep on that.

I love it. No risk of a lawsuit since it’s open-and-obvious and not a walkway.

Nola actually did this but in a much more eye-appealing way at the bottom of the Tchoup exit. This is what it looked like before:

After: I can’t find any updated pics online but there are areas all over Nola that used this type landscape in the beautification projects leading up to the Super Bowl. The pan-handling stopped immediately.

Just ask an attorney, they can find the exception and still make the city or state liable for stupidity.

Someone in the thread

Reddit is full of Asians who don't understand how little societal norms (not hassling people) get followed by the West, particularly the US.

I at first thought you were in Austin, until I noticed Belt Line Road. Austin would never be so impolite to their shiftless population as to inconvenience the grass roots level social interaction with other classes!

I don't think it's mostly Asians, more like TDS type liberals.

Some highlights from the reddit thread:

quote:

All this money to build torture devices for homeless people, but no money to feed or house them.

quote:

Abuse is a lifestyle in the GOP.

quote:

And the worst part is it's fricking cheaper to deal with the issue than to build all these anti humanist torture traps

quote:

Spoken like someone who's never read Marx

quote:

I've given to bums in the past, and if they spent it on getting high, you know what, their life is shite and I don't care to judge them for wanting to escape with (drug of choice). One thing I defintely would't call it, however, is a scam, 'cause I get everything I'm promised.. nothing

quote:

Cruelty

quote:

I’m so serious right now. You should read Marx. Like actually. Like, you can just Google the manifesto and read it.
