It just shows the disconnect with the outsiders and those who actually live in the proposed area. The outsiders think it's merely about commercials and fundraising to thwart the efforts, not knowing that a pretty decent majority in the St. George area are just tired of the incompetency of Baton Rouge. You always know when you are besting your opponent when all they can resort to is name calling. If St. George was an overwhelmingly left leaning area, labels could in fact be enough to spook people to change their mind because of appearances, but that's just not the case there.

LA Supreme Court will shoot it down as unconstitutional since State Law is what dictates how a city can be formed.

They should strike it down. However EBR will file the lawsuit right before the election and will find a Judge to put the election on hold until the matter is settled.

That's exactly what they plan to do. Unfortunately, they don't realize that suing to stop tax-paying citizens from voting will have the opposite effect they think it's going to have. SG will pick up 5-8% more YES voters once that shady shite happens.

They’re too fricking stupid to figure out every attempt to put a roadblock in front of this just raises support for it.

Maybe St George should offer keys to the city to SWB, Chauna Banks, and John Delgado for making it happen.

Louisiana State Constitution: Article VI, Part I, Section 8

quote:

§8. Home Rule Parish; Incorporation of Cities, Towns, and Villages

Section 8. No parish plan of government or home rule charter shall prohibit the incorporation of a city, town, or village as provided by general law.

State Constitution trumps EBR POG

I wonder what judge the City will find to wiggle their way around this.

BREAKING: We got an interesting phone call recently from someone fundraising to stop St. George from happening. Turns out the person who called was Amy Rodenburger, former Executive Office Director for New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell. So now the Mayor of New Orleans and her allies are trying to prevent you from creating your own city. Let that sink in.

The GREAT City of St George says, "hey"

Would this be covered by the OT’s least favorite judge, who just got moved to the 19th JDC’s civil side from the criminal side?

Well, the 19th JDC is the state district court for EBR...

ramer26 I believe a revision to the plan of government would require a parish wide vote in addition to passing the metro council. Someone correct me if I’m wrong

I believe the right to form a municipality is covered in the state constitution.

I have yet to be convinced that forming a city is in the best interest of the residents of the St. George area.

But, they have the right to make that decision for themselves. And these TBR people and their allies have so completely poisoned the water that it pretty much guarantees to pass, even out of spite.

They won't find a judge to prevent the election from proceeding.

They may find a judge to issue a TRO preventing the city from happening after the election. But that won't last long.

Sounds like the Baton Rouge Mayor is colluding and there is New Orleans interference in our elections!
