we were still for Trump though... I think Orleans is having trouble coming to grips that they’re not the unquestioned leader of the metro area anymore... Jefferson passed it up after the hurricane and St Tammany is gaining

She thinks she won based on her merits. She doesn't realize she only won based on her privilege and being supported by cronies who receive kickbacks

Charbonnet might be interested in running again. I think she could possibly challenge.

New Orleans politics are strange, and full of odd alliances.

Charbonnet is from an "old line" black Creole family with a lot of pull. Think the Morials and Carters. But as an old-line family, they are heavily tied into the black power structure of the city, including several of the 'alphabet soup' of black political organizations in the city (LIFE, COUP).

The 'old line' white power structure Uptown saw Latoya, as an outsider, as a candidate against that 'old line' black power structure, and heartily supported her with their money and votes. She had some commonalities with white Uptown, after all, by defending the Uptown/Broadmoor area following Katrina (when some plans showed it being razed and turned into a park); first as an advocate, then as a councilman.

But, as the Uptown whites found out once she ascended into the mayoralty, the Destroya is from Compton/L.A. by way of college at Xavier, and while she looks like an old-line New Orleans Creole in appearance, her true political stance and attitude is more left coast Black Panther/NWA.

After the debacle of Latoya, I think the white Uptown power structure in particular may have "buyer's remorse" and would very likely switch their support and votes to Desiree Charbonnet, a well-spoken, educated lawyer and judge. She would also likely get the support and votes of the old-line black power structure and upper/middle class blacks.

Latoya will no doubt get a majority of the poor, lower class and radical fringe votes from across the city.

Not sure how the numbers would add up and who would win. But I guarantee you it will be a lot different from the first election, when Cantrelle beat Charbonnet with over 60% of the vote in the run-off.

I'm no fan of Landrieu but he somehow had an airport built under his watch and there aren't statues of him anywhere.

Correction... he tried to force the building of an airport under his watch. it opened almost 18 months after the original set date and at a cost of $1.2 billion which is double the original "budgeted" amount. it didn't have a realistic budget to start but adding things after the fact general cost more than having the design and program correct to start.

realize that is the likely reality, but there is certainly growing sentiment in the city against her even amongst progressives. Just need someone decent to oppose her and that’s the biggest challenge.

The problem is there is a MASS outward migration from Orleans Parish right now. People are moving in record numbers out of Orleans I’ve never seen anything like it in my 60 years of living here.

I think if I were a man, I would have a statue by now based on what we have been able to do. But a lot of the things go unacknowledged simply because I am a woman and I am Black. The decisions I have had to make haven’t been popular, but are necessary. It’s almost like you have to fight the same battles even though you have demonstrated that you can make sound decisions. Still, every decision you make is always scrutinized. I even feel the pressure; it is like it comes harder from White men. It’s unacceptable. It really is.”

The lack of self awareness is downright astounding.

Do you have an article or data to back up this claim?

If that was the case, wouldn't housing prices be crashing as well?

Price per square foot increased Year over Year in Orleans Parish by 8.53%

Yeah...a house uptown just sold in a day. 2100ish sq ft, $715k. Bet they got asking or higher. Anyone leaving is getting replaced swiftly from what I’ve been observing.
