Sounds like random dumbasses there

Probably because they are young, both in their younger 20's. You think a random sample of 20-25 year olds from Lafayette or Baton Rouge have any clue about Uptown or Garden district?

ETA: not to mention people who post here who aren't even from the state.

Why are we limiting it to kids now?

We're on a college message board that is frequented by younger people (I'd guess). Maybe all of the people that said New Orleans to visit, do know that there is more to New Orleans than Bourbon St and have frequented Uptown and Garden District, but they haven't spoken out about this. I'd guess (I don't really know), that most people who visit New Orleans stay near the French Quarter.

I bet most of the people saying they wouldn't live in New Orleans are older.

I can see that. It isn't the best place to live if you have kids, due to the high cost of education.

ETA: great place for young professionals who don't have kids and don't plan on having kids for a while, though. I don't really have an opinion on New Orleans vs Atlanta, as I haven't been outside of the Atlanta airport.

The OTs average age would probably be close to 30 if not higher.

I disagree, there are lots of attractions uptown that are a short trolley ride from the quarter

I'd pick New Orleans but my reason would be because it's closer to home. If they were both 2 hrs from where I grew up I'd pick Atlanta
If they moved Idaho to Hammond I'd live there

I'd be interested to know the average age of the OT. I know there are a lot of college students, but also a lot of people who are out of college.

I hope you're right that people get out of the French Quarter. New Orleans really has a lot to offer that isn't that shite show.

As explained in my other post, my thoughts on New Orleans come from the view point of someone who doesn't have kids and doesn't want them any time soon. If the person is considering living here long term and having kids here, I may change my opinion.

Atlanta by a mile.

NOLA is a much, much cooler place, but Atlanta is better long-term. Atlanta has 10x the jobs, first-rate public schools, paved roads, etc. With NOLA, you're paying top dollar for every level of schooling.

Not to mention, NOLA will be a great place to play tourist with the money you'll be making in ATL.

Atlanta is on the up while New Orleans is slowly going the grave. New Orleans culture is nothing but looking at the past and hoping it comes back.

Then conversely it can be said that Atlanta is trying to fabricate a culture it doesn't have.

One will last as it has for some 300 years, and the other is a passing fancy coming to a strip mall chain restaurant near you.

He already has a job lined up, if pay is equal, NOLA. Atlanta is a pain in the arse.

This right here

The "roads" in New Orleans are an embarrassment to western civilization.

I've been to New Orleans a couple of times and don't remember the roads not being paved. Are they brick or what?

Lived in both. NOLA easily. Atlanta was ok, but nearly as fun as NOLA. As others have said, not much culture and food is meh.
