True, but Atlanta also has one of the best music scenes in the country.
The special part about the New Orleans music scene is the residencies. Rebirth on Tuesdays and Johnny Vidacovich/George Porter Jr Trio on Thursdays at Maple Leaf, Soul Rebels at Le Bon, June Yamagishi at Chickie Wah Wah,etc..(and formerly Anders Osborne at Checkpoint Charlies and Papa Grows Funk at Maple Leaf)

One of the things that I really like about Atlanta is that you are relatively close to the mountains and some great beaches.

What areas did you visit?

new orleans is one of the coolest cities I've ever visited, but i don't think id want to live there
I've been all over new orleans and pretty much feel the same way, I value things like affordable schools, space, cost of living, etc over culture, music, etc.
700k for 2,000 sq ft without a yard and parking on the street isn't my thing.

Los Angeles has a reputation as being a difficult place to like on a visit, but after living here it's easier to love. I think that the theory is that anything that you could ever want can be found here, but often in locations so far apart that you can't experience them on a visit. I disagree with this characterization, but that's what many think.

I actually enjoyed LA when I was last there

Let's be honest: Both cities are total shitholes with few redeeming qualities.

I can certainly understand this perspective. The good thing for you is that the majority of this country consists of neighborhoods filled with generic houses with off street parking and people more concerned with their lawns than music or art. I'm just glad places like Nola (and ATL) exist to break up the monotony.

Understood, and thankfully why it's not for everyone, but not everyone feels the need for such space, and values those things which lend to a more rich and interesting quality of life. For others, it's not as important. At the end of the day though, we have one shot at this thing called life, and it's up to us how we want to live it or if we want to actually live it at all. Many never do.

I'm the opposite. I prefer cities. I have 800 ft2 now and that's plenty.

I have lived in both now. It would easily be Atlanta. New Orleans has a drinking scene, music scene...Atlanta just offers more. They too have affordable housing I heard a lot less friends have issues with crime in Atlanta as opposed to New Orleans too. They may not be great but Atlanta has three of te major sports. Grew up not a Braves fan but their games are a great environment (surprisingly they are building a new stadium too). Food is not bad in Atlanta never found great Cajun food but they have a wide variety of places to try. MARTA will take you almost anywhere if you want a drunk night out on the town but a cheap safe way home. Traffic is worse in Atlanta from my experience. Had family visit me in both cities and they all said they liked Atlanta more. Thought New Orleans was a cool place to visit but thought Atlanta looked better to settle down in.
