I’ve lived multiple places. I don’t pretend to think New Orleans is problem free.
But I also understand that if New Orleans fails do do a lot of places in the metro area and ultimately the state.
I’m not sure what some of you think happens if New Orleans totally fails. You act like the city falls off the map and with it go all of the issues. It’s more delusional than the people in Orleans parish who think the city is Gods personal choice if he came down.

The violence they wrought caused middle class whites and blacks to flee key areas for the suburbs.
Tara High School was 70-30 white in 2000
98-2 black in 2010
I remember a slow trickle out of the public schools for a long time. Woodlawn, Belaire, Lee, Tara, Broadmoor all used to be decent public schools.
Didn't they redraw the map for Tara? That's the most funky school district in the parish IIRC.

From a civil standpoint, that's already happened. Shreveport, Baton Rouge and NO.

Those issues aren't necessarily unique to LA. A lot of Southern cities have been on a similar trajectory over the past 50 years.
I think most American cities are in decline right now. Some worse than others obviously.

absolutely 100% is not.
No it is.
Because the more it fails, the more the people that made it fail will move out and infect the surrounding areas.

Tara still pulls from the same areas it did when I went there. Valley Park, Downtown Govt Street, etc.
In fact it should be whiter, considering the softening of proximity waivers, and Tara being in a mostly white neighborhood.

People are fleeing Louisiana in droves.
Like 2nd or 3rd highest rate of loss in the nation, iirc

Any innocent kid we can help break out of the cycle of violence and poverty caused by a culture that glorifies single motherhood and devalues education makes all the fighting worth it. Its not easy but it’s rewarding when you can make a difference in someone’s life. Maybe if we can reach enough kids a leader out of that culture can emerge to help fight it. Maybe a community pocket can begin to push back against the blight and violence plaguing their lives.
Unfortunately, the politicians leading the charge just talk with no real actions.
Programs like Son of a Saint are great starts. It's basically a Big Brother program for boys without fathers - specifically due to incarceration or death.
Things are bad. But we can either ignore the situation and let more kids fend for themselves (we know where that leads), or build up more programs to allow them to succeed. This isn't a problem you can imprison your way out of.

Get fricked. That place and those people are doomed. They don't want to effectuate change to make things better. They're just waiting on rubes like you to throw more money down the drain.

I went to Central during the busing period but I also remember a lot of the BR schools in the early/mid 90s.
Some of them were still half decent but I think they were all changing from the 80s, and not for the better.
We are zoned for Tara but I wouldn't send my daughter there.

If these people and kids are doomed before they are born, why are you anti-abortion, then? Why don't you advocate for more abortions so they just can't procreate at all?

Did he say he was anti abortion?
I hope ever dysfunctional turd and Democrat aborts away to be honest. Eugenics aren't a bad thing.

Tara was a solid school when I went there in the 90's.
As was Broadmoor.
McKinley and Belaire were already bad
They trended poorly, but Katrina was the finishing blow.
70-30 white to 98-2 black in 10 years, man

quote:Was reading this thread and surprises it took so long for someone to point that New Orleans had the once in a lifetime opportunity to reset itself as the real World Class City she should be...and they totally fricked it up after Katrina. The Road Home only led to the gates of hell.
It got a reprieve when Katrina came through and flushed some of the crime to other states/cities. But it didn't take lone for NOLA to revert back to it's true self.

Once world war 3 ends with Russia and China and the republicans take back the White House
The confederates can take back New Orleans

It’s worth saving.
New Orleans has the ability to trick you when the weather is beautiful.
I went to Iris in 2020 and the weather was beautiful, our setup at Superior Grill was awesome, and the crowds were great. In that moment of everything being perfect, I forgot the problems of New Orleans. And like I said, this was 3 years ago.
Don't let one nice weekend fool you.
